About this listen

In the midst of his suffering in prison, St. Paul gives us a true glimpse into his faith and hope. Despite his circumstances, he describes his life as a joyful journey, because it is under the leadership of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Incarnated Word of God. During his time in prison, St. Paul neither expresses care for being deprived of his preaching the Gospel, or for his lack of freedom to meet his Beloved. Yet, in the midst of his pain and suffering, his soul did not cease to rejoice in the victorious life of faith in Jesus Christ – in every minute of every day. He did not view faith as a mere philosophy which tries to intellectually embrace a concept; nor did he perceive faith as a group of beliefs and principles solely meant for discussion; nor even as some commandments to which we are to adhere. He lived faith primarily as a daily experience of Jesus Christ’s leadership in his life that crosses him over to His throne of Grace - even in the midst of his daily distress. In the epistle to the Colossians, we can see our Lord Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church and her Leader, as our Peacemaker with God the Father. And it is the Father Who grants us the precious loving heart of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who holds us in Him to lead us to His Father’s bosom. As our Lord Jesus Christ leads St. Paul to his heavenly Father, the Apostle – through the example and work of our Lord – not only encourages us to join him on his path of righteousness and salvation, but also to lead and encourage others as well. In so doing, our Lord Jesus Christ makes leaders out of us – sharing in us His miraculous qualities.
