Pleasantly Surprised

That headline might imply I didn't enjoy Book 1: Valley of Embers. Quite the opposite. But The Emerald Blade keeps the focus on most of the main POVs from the first Landkist book while hugely expanding the world as Kole, Linn, Baas, Misha and Jenk head to the Emerald Road, which is just an awesome fantasy jungle environment with all sorts of deadly enemies and incredible landscapes.

No spoilers, but we're also treated to another major POV from the "opposing side," if you want to call it that. This POV makes for some of the best chapters in the book.

Awesome action (after a bit of a slow start,) and incredible imagery really gets your imagination going.
