Acerca de esta escucha

Cuervo is a pampered Nicaraguan moneyman, funding a guerrilla war from his cushy Miami penthouse. Sixto is his hulking, pistol-packing attendant, whose job satisfaction is on the wane. When an aging mobster enters their lives with a promise to help the rebel cause - with a planeload of chickens originally intended for voodoo sacrifice - a tense situation turns combustible. From the wickedly funny mind of Carl Hiaasen comes "The Edible Exile", a raucous story of sleazeball nihilists, lovable thugs, and jungle-weary freedom fighters who collide in a battle of wills, ego, and the almighty dollar.

This cheeky tale, written 25 years ago, set aside, and recently rediscovered, is a time-capsule glimpse of Miami during the over-the-top 1980s, when everyone was on the make and gross excess was the order of the day. In an intriguing twist, Hiaasen had lost his original ending to the story. "So I decided to write a new ending," he says. "As a friend said, ‘How often does a writer get the opportunity to collaborate with a younger version of himself?’"

"The Edible Exile" is a wild romp through Hiaasen Country, sure to appeal to the outlaw in all of us.

not hiaasen at his most hilarious, but well worth a listen. the story is more serious than the classical, fantastic and exceptional "skink stories" and has a delicious twist at the end. narration is good .

amusing

You can tell it is early work because it doesn't have his trade mark humor he is known for. Entertaining.

Nice short story.

Fun little story to remind us about a time in history that was controversial. Characters are quite graphically presented, loved it.

Iran /Contra perspective.

What did you like best about The Edible Exile? What did you like least?

Very short, scattered. I had hoped this would have lasted longer the 41 minutes, I thought the book had an error it was so short...

Do you think The Edible Exile needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Should have a note it is so short. I would have ordered something else for the long drive.

A bit short

This is not a full length novel. It is generous calling it a novella. The story was good but had I known it was so short, I would not have used a credit on it. I listened to in in the course of one day's commute. I do not recall anything in the description stating as such.

This is a novella.

What disappointed you about The Edible Exile?

Short and boring. Not like his other books at all. I lived in Miami at this time and still did not find it interesting at all.

Has The Edible Exile turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I will purchase more Hiaasen books.

Which scene was your favorite?

None

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment

Any additional comments?

Would like to return this one. a waste of a credit.

I was hoping for some laughs but did not chuckle even once. It was dark and morose.

Nothing humorous here

Skip this one. It's not worth it. It's only ten minutes long. I wish I could get a refund.

The worst book I have downloaded

I love Carl Hiaasen as an author and Scott Brick as a narrator, which is why I used an audible credit to buy this story. First, I didn't realize it's a short story. Second, it wasn't classic Hiaasen. It was a complete waste of a credit!
