About this listen

The Eden Project is a timely and thought-provoking corrective to the generalized fantasies about relationships that permeate our culture. This is not a practical guide on how to fix a relationship, but rather a challenge to greater personal responsibility in relationships, a call for individual growth as opposed to seeking rescue through others.

Love Hollis!!! Gladly projecting onto him!

I project my parental wise father image onto Hollis. Don’t worry, it’s safe! Haha. He’s so wise, and I love his writing—how he weaves poetry and history into his books and ties them into Jungian principles. Whenever I feel stuck in my life, his books cause me to think through my problems with a mythic Jungian lens—which seems to be the key to unlocking the problem in my confused mind.

everyone should read this

One can achieve no higher or better relationship with the other than one has achieved within oneselves. What we don't know about ourselves will be projected on the other. enjoyed this book, a good reminder that the strongest relationships begin with the relationships to ourselves.

good book minus the Leftist kook soudbytes

This book is generally good; interesting observations are offered. Written by Hollis, the prose is often turgid and professorial. Another trademark of many books by Hollis is the intermittent political soundbytes where he advertises he is a Left-wing kook. One for all: he writes that same-sex marriage -to him- is the fix to restore commitment and family values. Pfft! Does he read the stats and the tabloids? Marriage is in troubled waters, same-sex or otherwise.

Best book on relationships

A book that blends depth psychology, jungian psychology, psychoanalytic psychology, developmental psychology, and attachment theory. As expected of Hollis, it was beautifully written and I love how succinct it is.

Ten Stars

Everyone who has been married more than ten years should be required to read this book with their spouse every five years thereafter.

Please re-record this book

I really wanted to listen to the content of this book but I had to turn it off because the voice narration. The actor sounds a bit like an AI or a weatherman in his delivery. He’s so locked into particular speech patterns that the content of the book is lost. The content of what he’s saying barely feels connected to his voice and I am left wondering what this guys natural voice actually sounds like. Unfortunately, audible wouldn’t let me solely rate the performance so hence the three stars in the other categories. I will pick up a paperback and read it. Highly recommend you skip the audiobook version of this title.
