Acerca de esta escucha

The critically acclaimed novelist and social critic Aldous Huxley, describes his personal experimentation with the drug mescaline and explores the nature of visionary experience. The title of this classic comes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell: "If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things through narrow chinks of his cavern."©1954 Aldous Huxley (P)2009 BBC Audio Filosofía Psicología Psicología y Salud Mental Para reflexionar Inspirador Divertido De suspenso

At what point do you decide to give up your quest for God? To allow another to dictate your journey, to demand their God, their way, to live your life, when do you say enough is enough.

Law makers should read

Excellently written and thoughtful work regarding the mescaline experience, mind-at-large, and our perception of reality.

Important discussion on the nature of experience

It is always interesting to hear about someone’s experience on psychedelics, and this book is no exception. However, the author does take a lot of long, winding philosophical rambles that could have been shorter.

Good, but a bit rambling

I have always loved Huxley’s work and this particular piece dives deep into his personal experiences and makes a mark on history with regards to a legendary man of science and words that still finds time to personally experience something to write about it. Quite an explorer; if you write about it sans experience, it’s not quite the same. Great book!

Perfect narrative

so good

I enjoyed the narration although there seemed to be some production issues like static and volume fading. Regardless on where you might stand regarding the use of mind altering substances, This book opened the doors (hehe) to the conversations about mental limitations and how we might be able to remove them, also the dangers of doing so.

An interesting take on human perception

Aldous takes you down a rabbit hole of thinking in this awesome book. He explains what can be seen with the help of chemicals, which normally are unseen to the human eye.

This book has been on my shelf for several years now, and I finally just listened to the audiobook in one quick sitting. Huxley's account of his first mescaline experience is a quick read, but potent. Each paragraph is rich with meaning, and their implications require time to savor. I felt transported right to the room where Huxley undertook his experimental voyage, and experienced it all right alongside him. Doors of Perception is a perfect encapsulation of the psychedelic experience, as it is really more about the gorgeous inner wanderings of the mind, and less about the drug itself. Included in the pages are musings about Buddhism, the Tibetan Book of the Dead, classic art, and schizophrenia, ending with a vision for a new way of looking at mental health and drug use in society. I am left shaking my head at the fact that his ideas were voiced seventy years ago, and we are only now becoming remotely close to considering our own collective shifts in perception, but also hopeful that the tide may indeed be turning to a more rational and compassionate future.

A Psychedelic Classic
