About this listen

What would cause a cheese-loving, meat-eating lawyer to become a vegan? Her dog. Teresa Rhyme and Seamus the beagle both survived cancer once, so when Seamus develops yet another cancer, Teresa vows to fight again. Unsure of the best way to battle the unseen enemy, she embarks on some experiments to create a healthier life for her family. She finds better food for Seamus, and a plant-based diet becomes her own guide, but she realizes that's not enough for her - and it's not enough for the animals. As she searches for a more compassionate lifestyle, she struggles to find her place somewhere between a hypocrite in leather high heels and a hippie in a hemp skirt, all while coping with the threat of Seamus slipping away. When she encounters two other dogs who need help, including one rescued from animal testing, turning away seems impossible after everything she's discovered. Will turning her life upside-down to rescue two more beagles be the best medicine for everyone?

Charming, cozy true story

Would you listen to The Dogs Were Rescued (And So Was I) again? Why?

I would listed to this book again because it feels good to read/hear of precious, loving canines who can regard run-of-the-mill neurotic humans with unconditional acceptance and affection. The next best thing to having a dog to pet is to read about one, no make that two.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was Comet, a little Beagle boy rescued from a testing lab. He was a bit introverted and rather droll.

Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed the scene in which Teresa and Chris realize that Daphne is their forever Beagle.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It would be possible to listen to this book in one sitting, but it was more pleasant to take a couple of days on and off.

Any additional comments?

Teresa Rhyne, who says she's a trusts and estates lawyer, should use better grammar. Her pronouns are incorrect. She should either learn to use them correctly or get a better editor. Each use of an erroneous pronoun was jarring.

The new narrator took some getting use to.

Ok, so I just started this book and I'm sorry, I just had to laugh when the new vet said, "do you live next to a nucular plant"? I to live in Riverside, California and we, my household of three has had many "issues" that started when we moved up closer to the "better" part of Riverside. We blame the water. Our plants are doing great but after more than a year of chasing infections and my dad developing an adrenal gland problem, along with low iron and potassium. We drink only bottled water now and I give my dog bottled every chance I get.
Seamus is diagnosed with a third cancer and Teresa takes a two week trip to India. She has a hard time the first week but the second week seems to go much better.
Teresa has a lot to say about the torture food animals endure before being butchered and she gives her readers an ear full along with giving us the info for ourselves if we want to do our own research; needless to say; Teresa is a vegan.
I think I get Teresa’s sense of humor and her new found passion for veganism and I do hope the next book will be released on Audible soon because, I hate listening on my Echo.
