About this listen

Unbeknownst to all but a select few, Jim is a federal agent whose skills and sled dogs are often pressed into service to thwart criminals and foreign agents operating in Alaska and beyond. On short notice he and his dogs must be prepared to sled or fly to hotspots to covertly perform their duty, train other handlers on a snow-covered mountaintop in Hawaii, or even provide eye-candy for an impromptu presidential publicity event.

As part of his cover, Jim teaches the art and science of dog sledding in Alaska. It is a team effort between the driver and the dogs. They must learn from each other and perform in perfect harmony. This story chronicles their actions as well as the magic between the dogs and a female veterinarian who 'talks' to them. One must always listen to the dogs, too. They know. They always know. You just have to ask them the right way.

Great Story!

What a great story by Jon Sniderman. Yes, I agree that the dog always knows. They have built in radar for sure! The vet had built in radar in this tale. J T Farrell did a fine job narrating it!

Great book

I really enjoyed this book. Well written and kept my interest. Made me think of how smart my dog was. Alot of twist and turns; and the ending left me with a smile?

Narr Ator makes this book boring

I felt that this book did not have much content. The power of the magic that was interesting if not made up.

Solid story about the relationship between dogs & people

I really enjoyed this book and the way the story reflected the bond between humans and dogs. It was about a federal agent and the missions he went on that included his dog sled team. I would have liked if it wasn’t so vague and more details were given about the missions though those were not the real focal points of the story. It was more about the dogs and the relationship of the people with them and what they could understand of one another.
I was not really sure as to what the targeted audience was for this book. Again by the way the stories were told it could have been anything from middle grade to adult.
As for the narrator. He spoke very slowly. So slowly that I had to speed the book up to 1.75x in order to really enjoy it and get into it. If I hadn’t I think I would have lost interest.
All that being said it was a solid story. I enjoyed it once it really got going. 3.5 stars

The Bond BTW a Federal Agent and Sled Dogs

This is a story about the various operations a Federal Agent who is posted in Alaska and operating mission. Moving mostly by Dog Sled to where they are needed and learning to put his Trust in the Dogs. Some of the things described in the interactions btw One of the Veterinarians and the dogs is quite startling. Narrator does a good job with the Storyline.

The Dogs Know

This was an enjoyable short book about the relationship between a Federal Agent stationed in Alaska and his team of sled dogs. The main character, Jim, soon realizes that he can trust his dogs and if he does, he will be much safer.

I enjoyed the descriptions of the human/canine relationship and the bonds between them, especially when you have sled dogs. I especially liked the animal behaviorist/Veterinarian and her ability to communicate with the dogs.

My only complaint with the book is that it was more a collection of short tales without a lot of substance. Jim would start talking about a case he was working, then abruptly say, "It's classified and I can't elaborate". I think I would have liked it more if it was a longer story with more cohesiveness.

The narrator did a pretty good job but his voice was a little monotone at times. I was given the chance to listen to this audioobook by the publisher and chose to review it.
