About this listen

Maggie Collins, a newly minted NYPD detective, is lovely enough to be a model but wants a career chasing bad guys. She volunteers to go undercover to catch a serial killer.

"Don't get in the car," her lieutenant says. But, of course, she gets into the car.

The killer thinks he is in love, but his idea of love is a little strange.

Praise for The Disappearance of Maggie Collins:

"Roger Angle has a rare sensibility, part poetry, part literary fiction, and part nitty-gritty crime. I don't know another writer quite like him. Maggie Collins is the result." (Kem Nunn, author of Tapping the Source and Tijuana Straits)

"The Disappearance of Maggie Collins is a page-turner, full of gritty New York flavor and driven by complex and interesting characters. With this novel, Roger Angle proves himself to be a noir poet who can dazzle us with dark beauty and bring us to the edge of our seats." (Adam Meyer, author of The Last Domino)

"Razor-sharp NYC detective fiction set in the turbulent, grimy mid-eighties: hookers, pimps, and a serial killer. Captivating characters that kept me up all night." (John Shepphird, Shamus Award-winning author of Bottom Feeders and The Shill Trilogy)

Suspenseful crime story

A great crime novel. Set in the 80's, the writing put me right into the time and situations, I wanted to yell out and tell the characters to watch out, I felt like I was there on the gritty streets of NYC. The suspense was great, the build up of the characters was perfect, making me care about what happened to them. This is not anything like what I usually listen to but I am looking forward to more books like this from Roger Angle.

Creepy and awesome!

I am pleased to say this is one of the better detective thrillers I have enjoyed for quite some time. The characters are real; there is action, suspense, and passion to be sure. I liked the relationship between Maggie and Dupree, although I wasn’t entirely pleased with their personal outcome. The psychological nature of Krieger was both creepy and awesome at the same time. The built-up tension was palatable; several times I found myself concerned for one character or another. The writing and narration are simply excellent. I believe there were a couple logic holes throughout the tale but can be overlooked given the abundant merits. Four.point.five. Just an incredible story!

From the opening paragraphs to the very end, this story was incredible. It's incredibly uncomfortable. It's incredibly dark. The narration is incredible. The sinister character was off the charts incredibly insane. Even Maggie herself was incredible (although she did tick me off sometimes.)

This is a very dark story and the author does not pull any punches with the killers POV. It's off-putting to say the least. The narrator was great at bringing out the creepiness. (I think that's a good thing.)

This book is not for everyone. I will even confess that there were a few times that I put this listen away and listened to some KPop music just to cleanse my mental pallet.

This is a seriously great listen. Just be prepared.

A suspenseful thriller that's complete

This is a very exciting, suspenseful thriller. Some scenes seem sort of contrived, especially the climax which is just a little weird, but the ending is quite satisfying.

Joshua Saxon delivers an excellent performance, however the production is a bit rough. There are some duplicate phrases and some background sounds such as breaths and mouth noises that should have been edited out, but these are merely minor distractions.

This is definitely a better than average listen.

Great Story, Really Enjoyed It

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

OK... for me, this was an ideal book, easily one of the best I've listened to. It is suspenseful for sure, but it is so much more... something in the writing just worked for me I guess. Narration also probably helped, it just seemed like a perfect mix for my preferences.

I really enjoyed the depth of the characters and seeing their perspectives and motivations. It is fast paced with plenty of action, but I think what really got to me was the psychological aspects. I'll admit, there were times that I felt scared for the characters; the book drew me in that much.

I can say with certainty that I'll be using credits on this author's other work, and suggest that you give this book a try if anything I've said resonates with you.

Top Class Thriller

The Disappearance of Maggie Collins.
First book I've read by Roger Angle, and it is a great mystery thriller novel.
Is one of the rare books that grabs you on the first page and never Lets you go.
It is fast paced and intense, yet full of raw emotions. If it hasn't won awards yet then it should.
Joshua Saxons narration is excellent and compliments the book. I have listened to a number of his narrations and always find them to be very good.

Just WOW!!

This book... OMG!! I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish!! Well deserved 5 stars all around. The author did an incredible job on each character's POV- especially the serial killer. What a sick pup! I'm hooked on this author, I can't wait to find more of his books. Very well done!!
