Acerca de esta escucha

A brand-new epic fantasy adventure set in the beloved world of the Demon Cycle, following a new generation of heroes, from New York Times best-selling author Peter V. Brett.

Fifteen years have passed since the end of the war with demons, creatures of darkness who have hunted the night and plagued humanity since time out of mind. The heroes of humanity’s hour of need have become legend, and those who remain struggle to escape their shadows.

Olive Paper and Darin Bales have grown up in this new peaceful world. Demons have been all but destroyed, but dangers still lurk for the children of heroes.

Olive, princess of Hollow, has her entire life planned out by her mother, Duchess Leesha Paper: a steady march on a checklist to prepare her for succession. The more her mother writes the script, the more Olive rails against playing the parts she is assigned.

Darin faces challenges of a different kind. Though free to choose his own path, the weight of legacy hangs heavy around his shoulders. It isn’t easy being the son of the man people say saved the world. Everyone expects greatness from Darin, but the only thing he’s ever been great at is hiding.

But when Olive and Darin step across the wards one night, they learn the demons are not all gone, and those that remain hunger for revenge. Events are set in motion that only prophecy can foresee as Olive and Darin seek to find their own places in the world in time to save it again.

Performed by Melody Muze, David Cui Cui, Laura C. Harris, Nora Achrati, Eva Wilhelm, Colleen Delany, Ren Kasey, Peter V. Brett, Catherine Aselford, Karen Novack, Nanette Savard, Michael Glenn, Yasmin Tuazon, Terence Aselford, Amanda Forstrom, Nicole Perez, Bradley Foster Smith, Ryan Carlo Dalusung, Lily Beacon, Kimberly Gilbert, Drew Kopas, Rose Elizabeth Supan, Mort Shelby, Matthew Bassett, Neha Gargava, Evan Casey, James Konicek, Dani Stoller, K’Lai Rivera, Christopher Scheeren, Dylan Lynch, and Richard Rohan.

It's not a bad story, but it's a story set 15 years after the Demon Cycle series. It's pretty difficult to follow that storyline and to also create a world that had been at peace long enough to begin to forget war as well as to show both the technological, economical, and sociological advancements of that that world. It could've been better, but it was entertaining enough to justify buying the audiobook

It's not great, but not bad either.

I really wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. it started off a little shaky but hit it's stride soon, the graphic audio cast did a fantastic job.

great start to a continuation of the warded man

let me start this off by saying my wife and I were such big fans of the original series that we named our first son arlen. I LOVED the demon cycle. the nightfall saga however.... it's like it's not even the same author. I have been choking this book down. the only character that is semi likeable is Darin. the rest of the characters are shadows. the old characters barely play a part, and don't even act like themselves. the new characters attempt a spotlight in some vain grasp at depth. olive is just cringy, and not only because of the obvious political pandering. I understand she is supposed to be growing and learning but it is so forced and unnatural. she's like Rey from starwars. but even worse somehow? her quest for her identity is shallow and.... God I don't even have a word for it. the plot has absolutely no depth. from chapter 2 I knew how it was gonna go down. unfortunately it was even worse than I imagined and played out into barely a crescendo, using character deaths for some sort of weak shock value. but you never fall in love with them. I never found myself caring whom died because I just flat do not care about the characters, nor the plot. it's like the entirety of this books mission is to undo all of the last series. the first person narrative was done awfully. you don't feel immersed, All it is is a different view point. the whole of this beautiful world Peter created is narrowed to a peephole. it's focus is mostly on places we grew to love, but in the same breath I'll say that they are bare shadows of the former glory. there is no depth, just plain and simple. the characters are all Mary sues, instantly over powered with none of the struggle to rise to that glory, and yet it's still not enough. the plot runs a timeline of 3 months. I'll let you come to your own conclusions about that. in sum total, I honestly can't believe that the same author that brought us the demon cycle actually wrote this. my bet is it was sub contracted to a ghost writer, may be even a.i. I'm so sorry to leave this review Mr. Brett. but honestly, this is just awful. you and Brent weeks were my favorite authors growing up. between the night angel trilogy and the demon cycle, I lost myself in your worlds. your writings have brought me so much inspiration over the years, and I brought my own arts to life with the touch of your worlds. but for some reason, it's like both of you lost touch with the own magic your worlds created, with the depth and passion that your poured into your narrative before, and with the simple joy of writing. in finality, this book feels like a blatant money grab. it feels like something that was created just to pander and to fill a gap and fill your pockets. I will finish this book and the next only because I spent the credits on them, but I don't know if I will care enough to finish out the series. it's my second time trying to read it, I gave up the first time. as far as the graphic audio version, I'm flat disgusted. I've grown to love GA version of many books. I don't know what they were doing here, but I would rather listen to Tom Brokaw read this to me. it's like no one gave a S*** about this entire production. my sadness is deep. Inevera, perhaps some stories only need one ending.

I'm sorry Peter, but I have to say this

The music laid over the audio is too repetitious. Also the narration is awkwardly slow, (Audiobook publishers do this all the time so the book's hour length looks more impressive. Like upping font size weirdly big for more pages.) The standard fix is to turn up the playback speed but that makes the music and gratuitous effects sound extra weird and difficult to listen past.

Over production makes it harder to understand.
