About this listen

Nearly three million copies of Ruth Ware’s books sold worldwide.

The highly anticipated fourth novel from Ruth Ware, the Globe and Mail and New York Times best-selling author of the In a Dark, Dark Wood, The Woman in Cabin 10, and The Lying Game.

Harriet Westaway - better known as Hal - makes ends meet as a tarot reader, but she doesn’t believe in the power of her trade. On a day that begins like any other, she receives a mysterious and unexpected letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but she also knows that she can use her cold-reading skills to potentially claim the money.

Hal attends the funeral of the deceased and meets the family...but it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and that the inheritance is at the center of it.

Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware’s signature suspenseful style, this is a pause-resisting thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time.

Brilliant, captivating, intense!

I became completely and utterly lost in this novel. At first I couldn't imagine where it was going. I thought I'd figure it out soon enough. But I didn't! I was constantly surprised and intrigued by the twists and turns, the questions and surprises, the depth of the unfolding mystery. Ruth Ware is a brilliant story teller, a master at mystery, and an exquisite writer. Imogen Church is the perfect narrator. I could hardly stop listening. I'd listen while I was driving to and from work, while I was doing mundane tasks at home (ironing, folding laundry, making salad); sometimes I'd just listen. I listened every possible chance I could. This is a fabulous, addictive, book in every way.

Favourite narrator for sure

Imogen Church does am incredible job(once again). She is phenomenal with ALL of the voices and accents! I was absolutely stuck on this book. Listened to the wee hours of the morning for many nights...tonight I'll get a good night's rest but will miss Hal and her "family"....

Tedious.

This book takes forever to get through. The narrator doesn't help; every word is painfully slow.
