About this listen

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience.

"You're pregnant."

"It's a boy."

"Your son needs a heart transplant."

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Lies. Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun. Two words - that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky.

"He's gone."

For 10 years, the darkness consumed me. In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise.

"Hi. I'm Porter Reese."

so many tears

I loved the book. It made me happy and mad me cry. The audio tore my soul from me. Having these beautiful tragic characters come to life was almost more than I could stand, almost.

I can dig it

I love the patience of her lover and the love scenes. I can’t wait to see how the next one ends.

Better than expected...

PRESUMPTIVE ORIGINAL POST: I understand that everyone grieves in their own way. But, towards the end, your suggestion is to "pretend nothing has happened", or "to stop & stay in the darkness together" 🤔. What good is that? It seems unhealthy & toxic to continue as usual, when it is not life as usual...this is where you help them through the stages of grieving...duh. And the MMC is always talking about "stopping & staying in the dark" with the MFC, when he has two children that he has to be functional for...again 🤔, make it make sense!

REVISED POST: After the plot twist 😯😲🥴. Ok, now we're in it! 🧐 On to book 2!

Narration was ok, but the female narrator sounded screechy, flat, & stiff at times (like CJ Bloom).

Be still my heart!

I don’t know why I’m shocked because I suspected it but still. No one does twists like Aly Martinez. I just hope Porter is the guy I believe him to be. Completely innocent and cheesy and corny with his jokes. I want Porter to be an awesome dad and a great boyfriend to the hurting Charlotte.

Charlotte needed Porter to come out of the darkness so I hope they will be solid after the revelation about Charlotte’s son. At least there is hope after all for life and a future.

Great writing, great build up and great storytelling

Great story, but very predictable

I really did enjoy this book, although I knew the moment we met "him", where the book would end.

Part 1 of Duet….

Holy smokes this duet part one broke me!!

Charolette is on a walk in the park with her son when someone screams for help. Charolette helps the woman’s child and when she goes back to her stroller, her 6month old son is gone.

Fast forward 10 years…

Charolette is now a top doctor but doesn’t take on children cases. Porter is a single dad and a widow, and is opening a new restaurant with his brother. Porter’s son has seen every doctor but Charolette but is still struggling. Porter does everything he can to try to make an appointment but fails. He ends up meeting Charolette without knowing it until later. They meet a bbq for the hospital that Porter’s business is cooking for. Porter and Charolette end up going on a date and hit it off.

I don’t want to spoil it but the last couple chapters are jaw dropping… As the reader you know but it’s confirmed, that’s all I can say.

Gripping and Emotional

Wow, this story gripped me from the go. It was emotional and one that had me second and third guessing my predictions— that ending had me ready to dive into the next instalment (lucky it was already lined up!!).
5 Darkest Sunrises all the way!!

Great story

Love it. Somewhat predictable but it’s still way better than the typical fifty shades type of storyline. I’m definitely going to keep exploring this author. I recommend! Great narrator as well.
