Narration was okay; premise of the book, suspect.

The whole premise of this book is that the Illuminati are bad and are servants of the devil. The truth is more complex than fairytales about good and evil. The church has always had problems with enlightenment and the sciences. They view science and those who track it as a threat to their existence. To be sure, there have been bad and mad scientists. Having said that, the Illuminati are no more or less evil than the church as a body of like-minded people. Their societies had to be secret because the church had the most power of any institutions and the ear of the government. The fact that church sympathizers have argued ad nauseum that, "the Illuminati are an institution that does the work of Satan," is a fear tactic. This is not unlike politically motivated operatives who smear their opponents who have differences in their ideology. If you're looking for objectivity on this topic, then skip this book. Like the books, The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons , it is mere fiction, (except that these works of fiction are more honest about their purpose in their prose).
