About this listen

Left at an orphanage as a child, Thea Reed vowed to find her mother someday. Now grown, her search takes her to Pleasant Valley, Wisconsin, in 1908. When clues lead her to a mental asylum, Thea uses her experience as a postmortem photographer to gain access and assist groundskeeper Simeon Coyle in photographing the patients and uncovering the secrets within. However, she never expected her personal quest would reawaken the legend of Misty Wayfair, a murdered woman who allegedly haunts the area and whose appearance portends death.

A century later, Heidi Lane receives a troubling letter from her mother - who is battling dementia - compelling her to travel to Pleasant Valley for answers to her own questions of identity. When she catches sight of a ghostly woman who haunts the asylum ruins in the woods, the long-standing story of Misty Wayfair returns - and with it, Heidi's fear for her own life.

As two women across time seek answers about their identities and heritage, can they overcome the threat of the mysterious curse that has them inextricably intertwined?

Narrator not for me

I stopped listening to this book an hour or so in. The narrator emphasizes strange words, has oddly timed pauses, and is very slow. It has an amateurish quality to it. I got the kindle edition and really like it. Jaime Jo Wright is an engaging author. I’ll certainly continue to follow her work!

Ended up loving this book!

When I first started listening I thought I wasn't going to like it. But I decided to keep listening for a little bit longer and give it a chance. I am so glad that I did! I ended up loving this book! I couldn't wait to find out what was going on and what was going to happen. I didn't want to stop listening! I am looking forward to listening to other books from this author.

Enthralling split time suspense & mystery!

*audiobook review*
The Curse of Misty Wayfair is an absolutely ENTHRALLING suspense novel! Jaime has done it again with a split-time premise whose historic and contemporary storylines are equally as riveting and exquisitely intertwined. With creepy and gothic tones, a small town comes to life and hides a legend both Heidi and Thea must uncover to learn their purpose and history. With a considerate approach, Jaime also handles anxiety, and both mental and physical disabilities in this story in a unique way, drawing attention to worth and strength all the while. All of the elements of this novel work together to present a strong story of identity, belonging, and purpose -- but the true brilliance of this story is in the telling. I was surprised more than once, and relieved to learn the goings-on behind some things, too!

And I must mention the way the two heroes of the story interact with and compliment the heroines -- it's fantastic!

Bonus fun things: the rescued animals, bow hunting analogies (they were cool!), old time photography, and the Hulk.

I listened to the audio presentation of this novel! The narrator did a great job with inflection and delivery, even lending different accents and pronunciations to the different eras. (and I am picky about narration.) I would recommend it for fans of audiobooks!

Narrator awful - story okay

I'm sorry I paid for this book. I was unfamiliar with this author but the story line caught my interest. I won't be listening to any more of her stories. I listened to a sample from another of her books and that narrator was also awful. Also, there is a slight religious bent which is not something I care to listen to. Story turned out to be okay.

Jaime Jo Wright is one of my favs

Jaime Jo weight is one of my absolute favorite authors. I’ve read all her books at least twice, and I will continue to buy them. But this one…this. one.
Whyyyyyyy do we have such a weak, pathetic, main women in Heidi. Rett is a complete a-hole to her as well is her sister. And she never stands up for herself. Wth?? Rett and Vicki are such jerks and I found myself yelling at them and Heidi too for letting get happen. Get a backbone girl. Damn.

Complicated Ghost Story

I appreciate the author’s ability to tell such an involved tale. She is an excellent writer and weaves a complicated story of secrets and lies and their results.
While I didn’t always find the character Heidi to be a sympathetic character, her parallel story made Thea’s story more intriguing. The bloodlines of the various characters and inter-relationships confused me and I’m still not sure I understand it all. But the story held my interest and the narrator was perfect for the story.

Great story - horrible narration

I love Jamie Jo Wright, and the story is great. But, the narration is so choppy it makes it very hard to listen to.

Excellent and Clean

It took a bit to get into the story and it is one you need to pay attention to the name of the chapter because it jumps from the past to the present throughout the entire book. I wish there was more to the end of the story, but I really did love the interwoven stories. The Lord's name isn't even said once so it's really clean.
