About this listen

After the siege of Boston forced the British to evacuate that city in March 1776, Continental Army commander George Washington suspected that the British would move by sea to New York City, the next logical target in an attempt to end a colonial insurrection. He thus rushed his army south to defend the city. Washington guessed correctly, but it would be to no avail. Unlike Boston, New York City's terrain featured few defensible positions. The city lacked a high point from which to launch a siege, as the peninsula of Boston was fortunate to have. Moreover, Washington wasn't sure defending the city was necessary, hoping that an expedition launched toward Quebec like the one Benedict Arnold had led in late 1775 would keep the British away from New York anyway. However, Congress thought otherwise, and demanded that Washington defend New York. Washington thus did what he was told, and it nearly resulted in the army's demise.

Excellent! Enjoyed the information provided.

I found his book interesting given that the TV series just completed it's final season on the AMC channel. This book provides some historical and factual accuracites where the writers for the TV series took liberties with some of the facts as TV program writers often do to make the program more intersting for viewers.

Delivery could be better

The subject matter was interesting, but the delivery is very stilted and unpleasant to listen to.

Quick listen

The real story of the Culper Ring behind AMC’s Turn... great information, but the narration is too fast paced. The narrator lacks an understanding of punctuation when reading aloud. The narrator had a wonderful voice, but I found myself rewinding and contemplating the best places to pause. I would recommend reading this one rather than listening to it.

Historically Accurate - probably

There are so many differing accounts of the Culper Ring that it's hard to pinpoint a definitive timeline. I loved this short and succinct telling of the spy ring. It got me through an unbearable commute this morning.

Recap "Cliff Note"

This book appears to be a mere "Cliff Note" to other books that are available and makes many references to the various books r even the AMC mini series TURN.
I would only recommend this book if you knew nothing about America's first spy ring, "The Culper Ring" and were going to explore more historical information with future reads.

there's probably more info on the Wikipedia page

I guess I should have checked how long this was. I was hoping for some detail, drama, etc.
