About this listen

When Earth gets embroiled in the middle of an intergalactic war, humanity's only hope for survival rests with a ragtag team of unlikely heroes that includes an ace fighter pilot, a stuntwoman, a super-assassin, and an alien prankster.

Jim, a wisecracking, OCD-suffering fighter pilot, is about to propose to his girlfriend when his friend Kurt surprises them by showing up at his house, wounded and covered in blood. This is just the beginning of Jim's woes, because soon after, his life is thrown into a galactic conflict that threatens the very existence of the human race.

Can our heroes save humanity from the wrath of a galaxy-conquering alien fleet? The Crimson Deathbringer seamlessly blends breathtaking action sequences with mischievous humor. If you enjoy a well-written space opera saga, or if you are a Star Wars, Star Trek, or Stargate fan, this book, with its nerve-wracking space battles, memorable characters, formidable antagonist, and Game of Thrones-style shocking twists, is written especially for you. Pick it up and see for yourself!

Praise for The Crimson Deathbringer:

"The Crimson Deathbringer is a mix of funny and clever dialogues, action and adventure, with scenes that made me chuckle, bite my nails, and shed a tear or two. All while it kept me at the edge of my seat, trying to guess what would happen next. And no, most times I guessed wrong." (Jina Bazzar, the author of Heir of Ashes)

"The Crimson Deathbringer is the first novel from Sean Robins—and a great debut it is. It's chockablock full of action. You have dramatic alien-versus-human-versus alien encounters, exciting space battles, an insane race to save the world, some warm-hearted romance, and a lot of waggish humor (reminiscent of Douglas Adams). If you can get this granite face to break a smile, you've accomplished something major and Sean has done just that—by infusing campy fun at the right times, in the right places." (Tyler Colins, the author of The Connecticut Corpse Caper)

Fun book and story line

Loved all the 80’s and 90’s movie references and humor peppered throughout the story! Looking forward to books 2 & 3. Consider me a new fan!

A solid first contact book

Overall, it was a great listen. The narrator was good enough that I'll find other books that he's read. Storyline was solid but didn't wow me. It left some serious potential for the rest in the series and I'll be buying them soon.

Deathbringer is riveting right from the get go.

C.J Grey brings life to the story, a wonderfully well written one with lots of humor in book 1 and I’m lovin’ it.

This is a refreshing space opera, down to earth story, a can’t put-it-down book (audiobook in my case). Unexpected twist, true to life heroes’ deaths (Sean Robins doesn’t play favourites on who lives, making the story more life like). I love this series and bet I will continue to enjoy all his books and I’m sure many space opera fans will add Sean Robins to their eclectic choice of authors to go to for a good read.

An awesome can’t put it down space opera. If you’re a Trekkie or Star Wars fan, you’ll definitively love Sean Robins.

Loved it!!

Space Opera is a whole new genre for me and I wasn’t even sure what it was when I requested to listen to this book. But now….oh, man, am I invested!!!! I absolutely can not wait to listen to the next book in the series. I don’t even know where to start with my review. The story, as I’ve said, is fantastic. For me, it was completely different from my usual type of book. Aliens invade earth, but it’s funny. And serious. And funny again. I learned not to get attached to anyone. Not all heroes win the battles. But, the sadness passes shortly and the story swiftly moves on. We get to know the thoughts of each of the main-ish characters and that helps add some dimension to their tale. But, at the same time, we never get too deeply into any one particular story, so Jim is the only character that we really get to know. And Jim isn’t a perfect hero. He has his hang m-ups and issues, and disappoints us a few times. But, he’s still a great guy and I’m so excited to get to spend another story with him. The narrator was great. He had a really deep voice, which was surprising at first, but he could pull off a feminine voice with no problem at all. This really was a fantastic book and I can’t wait to listen to the next book in the series. I received this book for free at my request from Audiobook Boom.

Fast paced and entertaining

With the title Crimson Deathbringer, I was concerned that this story might be corny and amateurish. Actually, the narration is professional and the story well plotted and entertaining. The story is fast moving, with plenty of plot twists. More realistic than many of these military science fiction tales, many of the central characters become casualties and not all of the enemies are evil.. The central characters are well drawn and usually flawed. This is an engaging and entertaining novel.

A Lot of Fun!

Sean Robins has created a truly original sci-fi series here, with plenty of action and laughs to go around. Every time I thought I knew where this was going, it changed course. C.J. Grey does a fantastic job of bringing the voices to life.

Good Story, Robot Voice

I really like the story of this book. I think I would have enjoyed it more as a book to read instead of an audio book. The narrator wasn’t bad, but very robotic. Sometimes I was able to overlook that, other times it was a little annoying. Overall, I would recommend the book for anyone that likes any type of “space war” theme books/movies.

A Different Invasion

This title by Sean Robins and narrated by C. J. Grey is a good story. The only reason I didn't give it five stars across the board is I at times felt a discounect from the MC Jim. I'll not go into the reason for the disconnect because I don't want to ruin anything for other listeners.

The premis of the story is a different tak on nvasion of earth. The normal aggressor species is there and the not so normal helping species is there too. The differences for me was that Tarq and company are cowards and hiding behind earth's skirts ... after a fashion.

I found myself becoming involved with the characters and caring for them and their struggles. I do recommend this book and am looking forward to more from Sean Robins and C. J. Grey.

I received a free audio copy of this book. I am writing this honest review without obligation to anyone.

Classic "B" Movie ...

Basic Independence Day plot ... massive alien invasion where the scrappy human rebels run out of bubble gum. You got the mind control "voice of god" which dominates the human population; then you get a neural programming tool called "mickey" that creates "Mary Sue" plot commandos with a "Robo-Cop" flaw that provides some opportunity for high jinx. Over all, it was a light and entertaining story; however, the perpetual "inside" movies (and other geekness) references and occasional soapbox gave it a lot more a a casual feel that was probably intended. Then again, the level of belief suspension required here was pretty significant, so maybe that wasn't as bad as it seemed to me. Unfortunately I never really connected with any of the characters. Part of this was the pacing and somewhat mechanical nature of the plot that the humor just couldn't dig itself out of (which I think was supposed to do the heavy lifting here, but humor is hit or miss at best and it missed with me here). Mostly this has a potential is be a "B" movie style classic ...

Almost didn't buy this. Glad I did!

I almost passed on this audiobook because someone gave it a one star rating. Maybe it just wasn't for them or they had an ax to grind for whatever reason, but I loved this book! Great story, great characters, awesome movie references and humor and superb narration. I'm moving on to book 2 for sure.
