Thomas Keating
About this listen
In the darkest hour of the darkest age, Christian monks developed a meditation tradition unique in the Western world. A 14th-century author described their profound mystical experience as entering the cloud of unknowing. Yet during the 500 years after this great monastic flowering, this precious tradition - and the direct path to union with God it described - was virtually lost.
For decades Father Thomas Keating, together with other monks, examined this great question: Could anyone enter the cloud of unknowing through a prayer practice specifically created to attain it? Keating reached back in time for clues about the prayer forms of the Christian mystics. He synthesized his work into a Centering Prayer method that has helped thousands of seekers travel the contemplative path to divine union.
From infancy, Father Keating teaches, we accumulate emotional layers, or programs, as a result of traumatic experiences. The practice of Centering Prayer engages directly with the unconscious and loosens old traumas that hinder your spiritual development. This form of divine therapy draws from a contemplative method that has brought profound inner transformation into the lives of thousands of practitioners. The Contemplative Journey is Father Thomas Keating's great masterwork: a complete curriculum devoted to a Christian path for achieving the still point of resting in God.

Story
The enlightenment you seek in other religions has been present in Christianity from the beginning. Richard Rohr, a global leader in spiritual awakening, helps you recognize the forces (such as ego resistance and dual thinking) that separate you from your deeper self. Then, drawing from Gospels and the greatest Christian contemplatives, he shows you what it means to be spiritually awake. You will learn why your ego resists change and growth, what is useful about popular ideas such as the law of attraction, what Jesus, the first mythical leader in the West, can teach you.

Story
Franciscan priest Richard Rohr feels that there is no more challenging spiritual issue than the “problem of the self". Most of contemporary spiritual teaching, he believes, is still trying to inspire and fortify the private self, the autonomous "I". Even much church work is trying to evangelize and sacramentalize what many would call "the false self." Basic transformation is not expected, but merely a new set of beliefs and practices or loyal membership in a new group.

Centering prayer is the path to a wonderful and radical new way of seeing the world. It is not, as is sometimes thought, simply an act of devotional piety, nor is it a Christianized form of other meditation methods. Cynthia Bourgeault here cuts through the misconceptions to show that centering prayer is in fact a pioneering development within the Christian contemplative tradition.

With Meister Eckhart's Living Wisdom, James Finley, one of today's best-known teachers of the Christian contemplative tradition, invites us into Eckhart's insights in the same way that this luminary teacher delighted in sharing them.

Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
In 1967 Thomas Merton traveled to Thailand, seeking to further the Buddhist-Christian dialogue that was his passion. This beloved Trappist monk and explorer of the inner life died unexpectedly on that trip but not before writing a final letter to his brothers at the Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky. In the letter Merton wrote that he now realized that everything he had been searching for could be found at his own hermitage, within the Christian tradition.

The Lord is Amazing
This Spiritual Journey was for me particularly intense.
The background given by Father Keating on the various models: evolutionary, existential, philosophical and developmental psychology is fundamental to preparing oneself for the Journey.
The Holy Spirit has worked wonders, is working wonders and accompanies the willing souls on ever higher levels of consciousness.
Father Keating's knowledge of the Contemplative Journey is evidently deep and his voice and the way he presents the talks are very pleasing.
An outstanding audiobook highly recommended for people seeking a much deeper relationship with God.

For those called to rise & shine
The 2nd coming is an evolution of consciousness! The battle has been raging for sometime between love of self & service to others. We can’t serve 2 masters. The ego is separation from our true inheritance. It finds it’s refuge in the denial of the divine.

A Passport to Heaven
Fr. Thomas Keating spent a large part of his adult life helping the English speaking world to know and love God intimately through Contemplation and Contemplative Prayer in the form he calls (from Thomas Merton's term) Centering Prayer. This audio course gets far more detailed than I can likely ever appreciate, Fr. Thomas delves into the foundations and purposes and goals of the Contemplative journey and the Contemplative life. This course can serve as a roadmap, a guide to help us on that narrow road to true intimacy with God.

Book was better
I hadn't realized when I picked this up that it covers the same material as Keating's book Invitation to Love which I read more or less at the same time as going through this audio presentation. The book was more polished and eloquent but if you essentially want an audiobook version of Invitation to Love this is still an excellent resource.
