About this listen

Trust was rare and precious in the wide-open towns that sprung up like weeds on America's frontier - with hustlers and hucksters arriving in droves by horse, coach, wagon, and rail, and gunmen working both sides of the law, all too eager to end a man's life with a well-placed bullet. The New York Times best-selling grand master of suspense deftly displays the other side of his genius, with seven classic Western tales of destiny and fatal decision...and trust as essential to survival as it is hard-earned.

More from Elmore

What made the experience of listening to The Complete Western Stories of Elmore Leonard the most enjoyable?

Just got into Elmore Leonard's works a few months ago. So far I've fully enjoyed everything he's written. I didn't realize how many stories he's written that have been made into very good movies. Love the way he sets a scene but even more I enjoy the dialog between characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Too hard to pick just one.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. Always does a very good job.

Who was the most memorable character of The Complete Western Stories of Elmore Leonard and why?

Again, too difficult to pick just one.

Good enough but not great

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this to a friend who liked western novels, but not to most people.

If you’ve listened to books by Elmore Leonard before, how does this one compare?

I have not listened to or read Elmore Leonard before, but he compares favorably with other western writers I have read.

What three words best describe the narrators’s performance?

A mixed bag

Was The Complete Western Stories of Elmore Leonard worth the listening time?

Yes, it was worth listening to.

Any additional comments?

I got this mostly for the 3:10 to Yuma story, researching the story and he movies made from it. I generally find western novels to be a fun distraction but don't expect great literature or anything vaguely like historical accuracy. A fun commute audio book, easy to pick up and easy to set aside.

Not Bad But Not Elmore’s Best

These are all very early Elmore Leonard stories. They are OK but nothing special. They don’t have the great dialogue and characters of Elmore Leonard in his prime.

OK oaters

Pretty good Western yarns, but completely lacking the trademark wit of Leonard’s dialogue in his post-Western tales.

Enjoyed Western Stories

Performance was good on all stories. I especially liked 3:10 to Yuma. I have seen two movies based on this story.

oaters

Good compilation of short stories of the old west. If you like westerns I would recommend this, but only if you like westerns.
