About this listen

They had the perfect plan to start a new life together...before it all went horribly wrong.

A new twisting novel of psychological suspense from the acclaimed author of The Girl I Used to Be.

Coworkers Ruby and Harry are in love - but they're married to other people. They decide to tell their spouses that their marriages are over and to start a new life together. Ruby has wanted to leave her controlling husband for a while, so she tells him she's leaving and waits at the hotel where she and Harry are to meet. But Harry never shows up.

Suddenly, Ruby has lost everything. Harry won't answer her calls, and she's fired from her job. She finds a cheap apartment in a run-down part of town, all the while wondering what happened to Harry.

Just as Ruby thinks she's hit rock bottom, strange and menacing things start to happen - someone is sneaking into her apartment, and someone is following her home late at night - and she is going to have to fight for her survival.

predictable

about halfway through I figured out what was going on. I'd say it's worth the credit but not super suspenseful.

OMG! I can’t believe it!

The men in this book actually get what they deserve! I mean, when does this EVER happen? But, I guess that I shouldn’t be sexist - so amend that to “good overcomes evil in a weird, wonderfully twisted way”.

This book had some deliciously fun twists, keeping me guessing until the end. And I admit, I never saw this ending coming.

If you’re looking for a not-so-typical love gone wrong story, give this one a listen. I do t think you’ll be disappointed.

Good story; average narration.

I enjoyed the story. It had enough misdirection to be interesting without being completely impossible to believe. It’s not a “big reveal” kind of book, but it was still entertaining enough. There were 2 narrators for the primary characters. Elizabeth Knowelden as Ruby was good. Susan Duerden as Emma was difficult to listen to. Her approach was flat and uninspired. I put more inflection into reading my grocery list.

Quite a mystery

There were times I thought this was just another boring story and wanted it to hurry and get over but just then the story took another turn. Quite good!

Really liked it!

I really enjoyed this audiobook. It’s not the typical type of book that I listen to but it’s worth a listen. I feel that Ruby had “dumb” moments and was naive in some parts. I actually started to like Emma eventually. I am going to look into other books by this author. I’m glad with the ending although I wished she would have said something.

The person who read Emma’s part was very articulate but I feel that the voice didn’t match the physical description of Emma that I had in my head. I felt her voice was too deep to be Emma but that’s just my 2 cents.

I really enjoyed it!

Unexpected Ending

I liked this book. Didn't know what to expect but it did make me say 'uh oh' a few times which is a good thing. The narrators were great and they did a wonderful job individualizing the characters. I recommend this book. It's not a thriller but it does have an unexpected ending.
