About this listen

Here is the story of how the English acquired their vast domain; how they ruled, maintained, and exploited it; and how, within decades, they presided over its dissolution. Here are Britain's triumphs and also her stinging defeats, her heroes and her scoundrels. It is a full and fascinating chronicle of the growth of the British Empire and its people and of the impact that empire had on the rest of the world.

This book have changed my mind regarding the colonisation. It has basically strengthened my point of view and why I for colonisation, not against it.

Very informative

Another great work by"Sears"! He has ventured forth and brought his excellence into realms beyond his usual American Civil War subject matter, which I have always enjoyed. WELL DONE! Simply Well done! And kudos to Carrie James for his pleasing audio presentation also!

TOP KNOTCH!

While it was well worth the listen and very interesting, the essays only give a cursory outline of their subjects. One gets no inside about what the Empire was like for the non white subjects, how the Empire effected anyone in England, or the economics of the empire.

Intersting but a little superficial

I think it's a credit to narrator Corrie James, that she was able to bring a consistent voice to what is a collection of essays from different authors edited by Stephen W. Sears. That's no small feat. I learned a lot about Britain and how the empire got its start and was maintained throughout WWII. I think the book falls apart a little in its explanations of how the empire itself disintegrated. But overall it's a good read. And I appreciate James' narration enough to seek out other audio books she narrates.

Great presentation of a broad historical narrative
