About this listen

Can two people forced into a scandalous marriage find themselves lucky in love?

Lady Emma Cavensham refuses to bow to men or marriage, especially since no one will listen to her about women's rights after her best friend is murdered by her abusive husband. When Emma travels to gather the evidence needed to bring the killer to justice, she is caught in a compromising position with Nicholas St. Mauer, the reclusive Earl of Somerton, and the husband-averse lady is forced to marry the wife-averse earl.

Scared from a public humiliation as a young man, Nicholas only cares about amassing enough wealth to surpass his father. But Lady Emma is proving to be a pleasant complication. Just when Emma and Nicholas think they have love and marriage all worked out, their plans collide, putting them at odds with each other. Will their love be worth more than their ambitions?

In the second Cavensham Heiresses book, Janna MacGregor takes listeners on a fun, romantic ride with a quiet, sexy lord who meets his match in a woman far ahead of her time.

Finally!

A writer who makes the heroines true heroines with a strong sense of self and independence.

Terrific Story

This is not just an exceptional historical romance, but a moving story. Emma’s tragic explanation to her husband of her own lack of worth to a patriarchal society is profound and relevant even today. I would be honored to be her friend. I’ve listened to this book twice and written a review—something I rarely do.

The dramatic Prologue shattered my heart

Narrator - 3.5 STARS

Narrator Rosalyn Landor does a fine job of narrating but I would have liked her to talk a little faster. I tried changing the speed of the narration in the application but it went too fast then. The differentiation between male and female characters though good were a little distracting for me. I needed the line between them more defined. None of this took away from the audible book but compared to reading the book it did stand out in my mind as a slight bother.

Book Plot - 4.5 STARS

The dramatic Prologue shattered my heart and I was heartbroken for Nicholas. It is hard to imagine how anyone can treat a child the way he was treated. But it was a genius move on the authors part to draw this reader into the plot of the book.

Emma and Nicholas, the primary characters, were very robust and multi-faceted but at times I was frustrated with both Emma and Nicholas for being so tunnel visioned in their beliefs. The author handles this delicate area with finesse and the reader will be rewarded with the display of many emotions and the cracking of their individual hardheadedness and stiff beliefs.

Claire and Alex from The Bad Luck Bride book 1 of the The Cavensham Heiresses series play an important role in this book and it was lovely seeing how their life evolved years later. Their assistance for both of the primary characters created the additional meat to this story.

This book is full of beliefs and values that form who Emma and Nicholas are deep down to their core. It doesn't stop there though. The author takes the reader further into the story creating the question; "When does one beliefs become an obsession that is more detrimental than life preserving?"

At the end of the book the readers will see that sometime forgiveness is the greatest reward one can have or give. That money and integrity are not enough for happiness.

This book deserves a healthy 4.5 STARS because of the authors ability to hit woman's rights, abuse, revenge, forgiveness and love in a meaningful manner.

GOOD

This is a very good & entertaining book. I enjoyed most of it until almost the end & got very frustrated the way it was going but I was glad I hung in there because it took a turn that made a major difference in me enjoying the book or not. Narrator was excellent!

Good romance but with a lot sadness

The narration of the novel is well done. I have given this only four stars because though I can honestly say I enjoyed it by the end, about two thirds of the way through, I was reluctant to continue listening. This is not a humorous or joyful novel. It concerns a hero who is bent on revenge for all who hurt him when he was young, who deliberately isolated himself until he met the heroine. It is about a spirited heroine who is consumed with grief and seeking justice for a friend who was murdered. I suffer from bouts of the blues and use distractions like reading to lighten the blues. Listening to this book was to be such a distraction. Because it was so sad at one point (for me) I cannot give it five stars. To earn five stars, an audio book must be one I would be willing to listen to again and again. I cannot listen to this audio book again, at least not in the near future, because it will not work for me as an escape or distraction.

Beautiful romance

I loved the book, the story is well written with the H/H coming to know and love each other. The narrator was too slow and I had to increase speed but over all very good book.

Just ok!

Too much focus on women’s rights vs. the love story between Nick and Emma. Overall the story left a bit to be desired. Emma jeopardizes her marriage to help someone her husband hates…pleezee!

Beautifully Written

Emotionally gripping and beautifully captivating! This second book doesn't disappoint as we're drawn deeper into the Cavensham family. This began in such an explosive way and then took a steep turn from where I imagined it would go. These characters are raw and tender and absolutely belonged together. Watching them discover their happily ever after was spectacular!
