About this listen

"Behold it is written in the Book of Jasher." (II Samuel 1:18)

"Is not this written in the Book of Jasher?" (Joshua 10:13)

History has given us two separate and very different books by the same title. One of these may be the book mentioned in the Holy Bible. If so, it would reveal history and information which would augment and supplement our knowledge of the events from creation to the conquering of the Promised Land.

The value of The Book of Jasher is seen in the large quantity of additional detail revealed in the period between divine creation and the time of Joshua’s leadership over Israel when the Israelites enter into the land of Canaan.

The Books of Jasher includes details about the antediluvian patriarchs, the institution of the 10 Commandments, the establishment of the priesthood, angels, watchers, the flood, the tower of Babel, and many other events mentioned in the Bible. The tales are expanded and infused with detail not previously available.

The Book of Jasher in mentioned in the Bible, but this probably isn’t it.

I tend to think this version of Jasher isn’t the actual one, just stories passed down through the generations from people who read the actual Book.

Some things added and exaggerated and most likely some thins left out.

Truly interesting texts to listen to

I was able to finally get through the hours of this audiobook. I have to be in a specific state of mind in order to listen to this kind of writing. Since it is more for my personal understanding, I don't expect to be "entertained" by it but to be informed by it.

I am a student of different spiritual beliefs and so I tend to not listen as a "True Believer" but as someone who searches for facts in stories that were written thousands of years ago.

I have also done extensive research on the church Councils which reveals that it was indeed mortal men that decided by arguing, threats, "excommunication" and even death (Arius) who opposed the Great (a matter of opinion), Constantine; that the person of Jesus was indeed "divine". I would maintain that mere mortals are not able to truly determine divinity from writings that were anywhere from fifty to several hundreds of years old at that time.

We also know from history that many scrolls were destroyed and deliberately left out of the canonized version of the Holy Bible.

I have only one more thing to say regarding the veracity of all Biblical writing and then I will go on to the review of the writing and narration of the texts.
How can one know what the "truth" is, when one does NOT have access to all that was written? One can't know the entire truth therefore there is no assurance of the truth...

I truly am impressed by the audiobook itself and had to look up information on Mr. Lumpkin. He was a system analyst, working as a contractor for the Department of Defense. He also obtained a doctorate in the field of ministry from Battlefield Baptist Institute in Mississippi in 2002. I found no other background that might include ancient languages he might have learned.
I have found that many times when people do a great amount of translating of ancient texts and languages; they have an extensive listing of the languages they are schooled in. It doesn't mean he hasn't been, I just found no additional information about him.

The Narrator Dennis Logan:
I have read multiple reviews that many are not happy with his narration. I actually really enjoy his clear deep and resonant voice.

Doing "voice acting" and doing "characters" and genders is one aspect, however it is important to realize that the narrator is reading texts of ancient books of a Spiritual nature and they are going to be "dry" and not necessarily entertaining, however one can learn a lot from the text themselves.

What I gleaned from listening to this was that clearly the writers of that time wanted their readers to believe the narrative of what was written.

I look forward to listening to more from this author and narrator.
