About this listen

In a world of sword and sorcery, Breck died and was reborn as a dungeon core, a specialized living gem in charge of creating and managing a dungeon. Unlike most dungeons, he was handicapped with the inability to create bones, the very building blocks that comprise most living creatures. Breck just wants his life back, his humanity, and will do whatever it takes to achieve his goal. Even if that means killing the hordes of adventurers that want to plunder his depths so that he can gain the power to transcend.

Zach, a new adventurer, is given the quest to find the source of new cosmic energy that has made itself known, the same cosmic energy that creates dungeon cores. It’s the lucky break he’s been waiting for his whole life. But he’ll face opposition that will see him dead before they let him complete his quest.

Despite his inability to create monster’s with bones, can Breck gain enough essence to rank up and become human again or will he be forever trapped as a dungeon? Will Zach be able to live long enough to complete his quest while other guild members are hunting him? What happens when Zach’s and Breck’s paths collide?

So that a Dungeon Core Story?

Can't say I hate it nor do I like it. I found myself trying hard to stop my mind from wandering off. I like Zack and his growth but I despises Breck gloating about his plain dungeon lol. Zura was a hit and miss too, I love Tao and Drakna Voice but Breck and Zack reminds me of Jimmy from "F is for Family." Hard to like your main characters if they sound like that kid from that show lol.

standard core book

as far as dungeon core books go this starts out pretty standard. You have a core and you have an adventure, and you bounce back and forth between the two as the story progresses.
it's not the best Dungeon core book I've ever listen to, but I'm hoping it will evolve into something more.
personally I like the fact that you don't have set creatures that you could create in your dungeon core, you have to find what to make and you can shape them the way you want with the amount of knowledge you have.
magic types aren't specifically unique but they do go about it in reasonably unique way.

Who needs bones?

This story takes similar troupes of dungeon books and keeps it entertaining. The differences are not much. We got a dungeon that was a human, a main party of adventures, and one individual that is unique to the dungeon & story. The difference is no dungeon pixie/fairy (does have a companion), uses exoskeleton creatures, and isn't very worried by morality. He does want to play fair to increase the amount of adventures, but has no problem with killing people if they are forced into unfair situations by others. The author does add an extra race that is rarely used in fantasy books as a member of the party. Other than that, nothing too surprising if you have listened to Dungeon book(s).

Really good

A to the point story. I like the characters so far. Story is interesting but also laid back. Can’t wait for book 2

Better than the press

Was this a masterpiece - no. Was it good and worth my credit - yes. This is RPGLit so what do you expect? The characters are a bit one dimensional but are interesting as a whole. The concept is good and interesting, the pacing pretty good, and i look forward to the next book. What more can I ask for?

Looking forward to the next one

I really like the dual story. Breck makes one heck of a dungeon and Zach is learning to be an adventurer. Its like getting two stories in one that slowly come together. Its great!

Good voice decent story mediocre writing

The voice acting is solid and I think the story and characters are pretty solid and I feel it can be a solid series even though it is a bit trope-y.

I had a really hard time with some of the explaining voice. The characters frequently explain their motivations and actions by telling others. It’s pretty clear what the motivations are through the story but characters keep explaining themselves. For example one character helps the other in a big way. The next 5 things the one does for the others is followed by a “ I owe you my life after all.” It just felt really awkward to listen to.

I won’t be coming back to this series but will keep an eye on the author and actress for future releases from them.

Unique Dungeon Core

This is a unique approach to Dungeon core. It is unless any other I have ever read, and it was great I can't wait for more of the series. It is refreshing to find something totally unique in dungeon cores.
