About this listen

What if Abel had killed Cain, but there was no jury of his peers?

In 1928 Georgia, a black man who kills a white man is automatically guilty, but the bedwarmer's son, an ex-slave, is no normal black man. And the dead white man is his half-brother. Once his lily-white lawyer lady learns the truth, everything changes. Can she save him from swinging?

Will the bedwarmer murder the one she's been bought to serve?

From the antebellum South, come travel the dusty trails of Jim Crowe Dalton, Georgia, with slave and master, saint and sinner. See if God is really big enough, if he truly cares about his children. McAdoo has done it again, this time in a brand new way. A delightful morsel for the palates of Christian listeners world round.

Not what I was expecting

This was definitely not what I was expecting it to be. I did enjoy the story even though I didn't particularly like how it went back and forth from the actual story and Billy telling his story to his lawyer. Even though this was a historical read, I was put off by the use of certain words. I loved the love story and the faith that shown through the characters. It was especially nice to see some of them accept the Lord.

The narrator did a very good job.

Billy’ Story

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was great. I did enjoy the two stories in this book, one of slavery days and the one at a later date. I certainly enjoyed Billy’s story of his Momma, (the bedwarmer. I would rather the “N” word not be used but I do understand that is part of the history during this time. I also couldn’t wait to find out if Billy was going to be charged for the murder of his half brother. This was my first book to read by this author and I enjoyed it so I will be reading/listening to more.
I received an audiobook thru the author’s assistant. I am not required to write a review. All opinions are my own.

Unfailing faith against great odds

Back in the says of slavery, slaves had no rights. They were found guilty if they ran from their masters and/or committed crimes against white people and were not allowed to marry a white person. Stilll, they had faith that God would see them through every situation. A book full of history, deep love, calamity, and strong faith in God. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!!
