About this listen

Return to Lancaster County with the first installment of Amy Clipston's charming new Amish Marketplace series.

Christiana Kurtz loves to bake, but when her bake stand becomes too busy, her mother encourages her to move her business to the local market. Her new bake shop becomes so inundated with customers that the line blocks the leather and woodcraft shop next door, which is run by Jeffrey Stoltzfus. When Jeffrey complains that her stand is driving away business due to the lines, she complains to him that his personalization machine smells. Though their relationship starts off on bad footing, they eventually forge a friendship.

When Christiana’s father makes a surprise visit to the market, he is upset to find that Jeffrey uses the building’s electricity to personalize his items. He tells Christiana that Jeffrey is too modern for her, and she’s forbidden from dating him. Christiana is crushed, but she knows she must obey her father.

When Jeffrey’s shop catches fire one day, he puts the entire market in jeopardy - including Christiana’s bake shop. Christiana, however, can’t deny how she feels about Jeffrey despite his mistakes. Though the odds are against them, can two young people find a way to rebuild both their businesses and their relationship?

Love the Amish

This was my first Amy Clipston book and let me just say that I will be reading more. She had fully defined characters with such a deep storyline. I really grew to seriously dislike her dad until the end. I was happy to see the story resolve the way it did and it is part of a series!! I can't wait to read #2.

Wonderful Amish Story

This is a very nice and easy read. There is a little insight into the Amish culture and a refreshing, light, entertaining listen. Enjoyed every word. The narrator was excellent!!

Clean story

I loved that there was no foul language and that talk of God was normal. Respect to the parents was refreshing! I usually read suspense and mystery books. Those are definitely not family friendly. I like to take a break from those and read a book like this just to clean out my brain!

I would recommend this to everyone.

My only complaint is that the voice narrator didn’t vary the voices enough for me to tell the difference.

Reader wasn’t the best but good story

I enjoyed the story but the reader felt like it was half automated. Like I was listing to Siri read the book then it would switch to a person. Big moments had no emotion or inflection.

Cute story!

I thought the story was cute, my only complaint is that I wish there was a guide to the words used, for those of us new to Amish novels it would be helpful, I kept hearing “donkey” (danke) I don’t know German or the Amish dialect so at first I thought “Donkey” was an expression used in place curse words 😆, then I thought, heck maybe they have a donkey? I kept trying to figure what the heck she was saying and it was used so much, finally figured that one out. Phew!
But I’m hooked, I thought it was cute and wholesome.
