About this listen

The 21st century sniper is a mature, intelligent shooter who leverages technology to his deadly advantage. He has spent thousands of hours honing his skills. He is a master of concealment in all environments, from the mountains of Afghanistan to the crowded streets of Iraq. He is trained in science and left alone to create the unique art of the kill. To the sniper, the battlefield is like a painter’s blank canvas. It is his job to simultaneously utilize tools, training, and creativity to deliver devastating psychological impact upon the battlefield. And it is he alone who is left with the intimacy of the kill. A complete practical guide for any modern sniper, former Navy SEAL and military sniper Brandon Webb reveals the tips and basic training necessary to become an efficient marksman. Webb is an international authority on sniping, and after serving multiple missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, he ran the Navy SEAL sniper course, which is arguably the best sniper qualification course in the world. Including details on advanced sniper training for maritime, helicopter, and urban sniper operations, The 21st Century Sniper also touches on the latest research, development, testing, and evaluation of sniper weapons systems and optics. From trajectories and wind speed to camouflage and best vantage points and targets, Webb covers everything an expert sniper needs to know. This book is suitable for gun enthusiasts, outdoorsmen, the beginning sniper, and those with military backgrounds.

Editorial reviews

Allen O'Reilly expertly performs Brandon Webb and Glen Doherty's book The 21st-Century Sniper: A Complete Practical Guide. This volume really aims to unravel the mysteries behind of the military's deadliest combatants without falling to the misconceptions touted by films and video-games. While the sniper has played a part in every war for centuries now, not much has been written about the experience by those who have held this position in the military themselves.

With entries involving the long and storied history of the vital sharpshooting position, to a close look at the science of the scoped rifle and training needed to use one, this an crucial guide for understanding these artists of the battlefield.

Great info, poor performance

I loved the stories and the info was great but the reader was sub par. His pronunciation of weapons and manufacturers as well as different Calibers and acronyms, you can tell that he knew nothing about the material and it really drew away from the information and the stories. He had decent tone and tempo but it just sounds like a guy that was handed a training manual for he first time and told to read aloud.

One of my favorite technical books, Doherty & Webb did a great job.

13 hours and The Red Circle by Brandon Webb illustrate how their friendships were forged.

The reader sucks.

great story and some good info here. I almost couldn't listen to it because of the lack of gun knowledge, pronunciation and overall ignorance on the subject of the reader.

Very interesting book well written and read. The only criticism is some of the info is either wring or slightly misleading

Narrator’s unfamiliarity with military and shooting terms.

Good information, narrator can’t properly pronounce military terms and abbreviations. Distracting, and ruins the experience.

Great information but very poorly read.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would edit the narration. Many terms are pronounced incorrectly and there are awkward pauses in speech that detract from the performance.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Brandon Webb

How could the performance have been better?

If someone better acquainted with the subject matter read the book.

Any additional comments?

Aside from obvious flaws in the narration this is a must read for anyone interested in firearms and the details of marksmanship.

Good book. Poor narration

Mr. O’Reilly like many narrators need to check with authors on proper pronunciation and use of military terms and acronyms they are unfamiliar with. Was very distracting from an otherwise informative book

Sniper history and factors pretty well covered

Liked everything but had issues with the narrator being entirely unfamiliar with the terminology for firearms and bullet calibers. I'm surprised it was released with the pronunciations used.

So good I will by a hard copy to take notes

The programs wows. I'm sure all of the information is open source, but it is packed here in one spot. on a 1 out of 10 this book gets a 15.

I almost didn't get it because of the length I thought is was over priced. Now , i would pay double and in fact when I buy the hard copy it's exactly what I am doing. I'm glad this guy is a sheepdog and not a wolf.
