About this listen

Bart Hunter’s life ends tragically when he falls while climbing a rock wall, only to be given a second chance by a lovely goddess, Tina. Reincarnated into a world of magic, Bart receives extraordinary powers far beyond those of normal mages—Level 100 in both magic and defense. However, his true abilities are masked, leading the Mage Guild to shun him as weak.

Choosing a quiet life, Bart retreats into the caverns outside the kingdom, where he befriends a grumpy black bear named Griz and spends years honing his skills in secret. Griz, magically linked to Bart, gains strength and earth-based abilities, growing alongside his master. But when Bart turns 18, he is called back to the kingdom to join the Mage Army.

Ancient dragons, awakened by the greed of gnomes, threaten the kingdom, pushing monstrous forces toward the city. Bart’s concealed power soon becomes evident, leading him on a dangerous quest to stop the rising threat. Along the way, Bart must confront the dark forces of The Fallen and a hidden traitor, while discovering his connection to the goddess who watches over him.

Epic battles, deep friendships, and an unexpected romance await Bart as he uncovers his true destiny.

It started out fine like any other fantasy story about a special MC...but then it got worse, cheesey and artificial. The book begins to read like a toddler's bedtime story instead of the epic adventure it's supposed to be, and the narrator made it even worse by OVERLY dramatizing EVERY sentence to the point of satire....no, just ...no.

what the others review said about being shallow...

This audiobook deserves a zero-star rating. I tried listening to the story several times but couldn't get attached to anything or anyone in it. I finally decided to use it as a sleep aid, which worked perfectly.

This has no world-building, no relationship development, and no explanation of the magic system—it’s all just implied. It’s full of repetitiveness and for book this short that’s not good. Looking at this author’s other publications, it makes sense that they’re self-published because no reputable publisher would accept this. It’s barely good enough for Royal Road. The author has a lot of work to do in developing their craft, and choosing a title that leans on the popularity of anime only makes it feel even more exploitative.

Shallow Storytelling with Missed Potential

I can't say it's the worst book I've listened to but it's pretty bad. I wish I had read the other reviews first because most of them are spot on. It's very shallow with no world building, people constantly repeating the exact same thing as the mains internal monolog. It might just be that it lost my interest early on but it also seems like it doesn't really give any idea of actual time tracking. It just seems like an epic adventure written for an elementary school kid. The narrator says every single line like it's a great event and this is just a personal dislike but the reverberation of internal communication is tacky.

It could have potential.

The depth of the story felt lacking. The power scaling was also weak. Story might have been good if it had more chapters to create more bond with the characters.

Well written and narrated.
