About this listen

Ava Birch is a ghoul. Still wading through the world of Supernaturals, she is discovering that daytime soaps have nothing on the drama in her life. Lisa Jenkins, her best friend and human companion, is training to join an organization that tried to eradicate every ghoul on the planet. Morgan, her so-called adviser, continues to answer in as little detail as possible...and now the faeries are causing people to have orgies in the middle of a shopping mall. Welcome to the real world of the Supernaturals where all that stuff you read is based on fact.

Fairies have fun!

Where does That Ghoul Ava Kicks Some Fairy A** rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love listening to Ava. I liked seeing Ava fight and work with the fairies. In some ways they are like preteens...but with an attitude and surprises.

What did you like best about this story?

I love it when Ava disappears into her own head and just spaces out. I am glad that it isn't just me that goes on trips :)

What about Pamela Lorence’s performance did you like?

Once again Pamela is perfect. She really gets into her Ava. I would like to meet her one day to see if she is just like what I think Ava is, or if she really has to work to get into character. What ever it is, she does it well.

entertaining

This is another adventure for Ava in which she becomes more and more the ghoul. There are no great mysteries and some of her thoughts may not be easily swallowed by some. It was an interesting listen.

Just buy the whole series

I am not usually into this genre, but a friend recommended the That Ghoul, Ava series to me, so I decided to give it a shot. I am glad I did! Author TW Brown weaves a fun bit of yarn that involves a tapestry of characters, including a cold and sardonic supernatural psychic, an overly confident Queen of the Zombies, a couple hot (but not sparkling) vampires, a templar-in-training, and of course, That Ghoul, Ava.

I originally read the books, and liked them so much, that when I got the chance to listen to and review the series on Audible, I leapt at the chance.

Ava becomes a Ghoul in the first book of the series. Her inner monologue is an adventure all on its own. She may or may not have a raging case of ADHD, which makes her an easy to identify with character for me. Her mind-wandering inner monologues rival that of JD on the TV show, Scrubs.

The cast of characters are fun and interesting, especially the way Ava describes them. Combine all of the above with a nice dose of '80s music fangirling, and you've got a recipe for a great listen.

Pamela Lorence does a nice job of narrating the stories, though I must say that my mind's voice for Ava was a lot more droll and Daria-like. Even so, I think she was a good choice for Ava's audiobook presence.

Something that is an added bonus is that the author of the series is on Facebook, and he is very nice, likes input, and actually replies when you write on his wall. It's not too often that you can have actual contact with writers of the books you're reading! You should just go ahead and use your credits or buy the series now. You can't go wrong. Fun books! I hope TW Brown does more with Ava.

Funny and full of crazy action

What did you love best about That Ghoul Ava Kicks Some Fairy A**?

Shark mouth returns in her next nutty adventure and I laughed through it again. I just can't get enough of Ava and her ADD life. This time there is a new narrator which took some getting used to but I think it was for the better. Ava has to stumble her way through a showdown with the Queen and figure out the new situation as she goes along. Funny ghoulish action and some real emotional moments make for a quick easy listen. Another clever installment

AudioBook Review: Stars: Overall 4 Narration 3 Story 4

Jumping right into the action, this story starts off with a bang and continues to deliver giggles and action in equal measure. The satire in this installment combines nicely with the solidification of Ava’s inner monologue and her own character growth, keeping readers of the earlier books well fueled with ‘aha’ moments as the impressions fall neatly into place.

Barging into a mass of fairies with their panties in a twist as they battle one another is one thing: learning the political and historical machinations and slights behind the dispute are another. The world of the supernatural, undead and otherwise is far more complicated than anyone would have imagined. Ava’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, but she manages with her unique brand of associations and ramblings to find an answer.

Narration from Pamela Lorence continues from the previous title: I characterized it then as a snarky Barbie doll, and that comparison remains apt. Even as Ava’s character is growing and developing, there is an added touch of humor from her voice and the imagery it brings, even adding a bit of lighthearted feeling to the overall. Again insets of emotion are well-placed and depicted, adding much to the engagement factor. Another clever installment in a paranormal/ urban fantasy series with a satirical bent.

I received an AudioBook copy of the title via AudioBook Jukebox for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
