About this listen

To Rory Yates, being a Texas Ranger is about justice, but all of that changes when he is brought to a small Southern town to help uncover the mysteries behind a local woman's death - only to discover corruption and lies.

Texas Ranger Rory Yates is not keen for hero status. But it's unavoidable once his girlfriend, country singer Willow Dawes, writes a song about his bravery. Rory escapes his newfound fame when he's sent to the remote West Texas town of Rio Lobo, a municipality with two stoplights. And now, according to the chief of police, it has one too many Texas Rangers.

Rio Lobo Detective Ariana Delgado is the one who requested Rory and the only person who believes a local councilwoman's seemingly accidental death is a murder. Then, Rory begins to uncover a tangle of small-town secrets, favors, and lies as crooked as Texas law is straight.

To get to the truth before more people die, Rory is forced to take liberties with the investigation. The next ballad of Rory Yates may not be about a hero, but rather an outlaw song.

Not bad for 2nd book

The first book was very good, I was a bit disappointed with book 2 but overall was a good read. Not wild about how he falls in love with every girl he works with, when he claims his late wife and then new girlfriend are loves of his life. Until the next one...

Rangers as Big as Texas

Love the $5 sale for this new 2020 book. Mr Patterson always seems to team up with an author who brings a different but entertaining perspective to their collaboration. This seems a bit on the romance side not just a mystery. Yes l did figure out the plot and The Who dunnit, but this book was about the journey not just the mystery in my opinion. Could have been a 5 star, but a good editor would have to do something spectacular to bring up the pace of the story.
Were my comments of help?

AWESOME BOOK

My name is Daniel Curtis O'Neal I presently live in Newport , Arkansas I'm a long distance truck driver of 35 years.
I started listening to audio books about 15 years ago as I didn't have a lot of time to read a book , my first book was the
Tennessee Truckers Roundup by John L. Lemay it was a awesome story.
I later got introduced to James Patterson , John Sanford , David Baldacci , Patricia Cornwell , Graphic Audio(The Cutting Corporation) etc. etc..
I'm a huge fan of audio books now it seems to make the miles just fly by(All of you authors in my review here and the ones who aren't keep pumping out these great stories.)
"You folks are the best"
Sincerely
Daniel Curtis O'Neal

One of Patterson’s Best!

Being from Texas maybe I’m biased, but this was the best novel I have listened to in a few years. Extremely well preformed and great character development. Keeping it in my library for a future listen!!

Great Audiobook

Being from Texas, it took me awhile to read & listen to the Texas Ranger series. Mostly I didn’t want to read another clichè, “everyone from Texas is a cowboy and the whole state is full of tumbleweed that the country bumpkins watch roll past every night while they sit on their porch in their rocking chairs” story. Thankfully, there are cowboys and tumbleweeds and rocking chairs in this series, but they’re believable, and most of the story line is pretty accurate for Texas. Both of these books are really exciting, but I liked Texas Outlaw much more, because I figured out the ending to Texas Ranger the first time the killer was introduced. Texas Outlaw was much more mysterious, in my opinion. The narrator is reasonable, although his drawl and extremely slow speech pattern are a bit melodramatic. He does a pretty good Hispanic male impersonation, but his Hispanic female impersonation is downright hysterical. She sounds Irish most of the time, and the rest of the time she sounds like my insane German calculus teacher from high school whose German got muddled with our southeast Texas accents to form a strange “Texman” accent that I’ll never forget. I kept waiting for Ariana to riverdance or smack Rory with a ruler and make him find the cosine of something.

Texas Outlaw

We listen to Audio books while we drive on long trips. My husband and I found this very entertaining. It made the long miles go faster. A little hokey at times but very enjoyable.

Book as big as Texas

This is a tale woven like an intricate tapestry with one thread hanging: who killed that first woman?

New favorite book!

I am an avid reader but have just discovered James Patterson! I thought he was all courtroom kind of books. I WAS WRONG!

This book about a Texas Ranger was so true to life. His Texas drawl was spot on and could invision Rory's character. The book was well read and story line was really good. I hope this is the start of a new 2nd, 3rd, & 4th book with these characters!

Sit down and listen to how a real Texan talks! Enjoy!
