About this listen

In a twisty and provocative thriller debut, Elle Owens tells the story of a young mother whose husband vanishes without a trace, and their shared playlist holds the only key to bringing him back.

When her husband goes missing, Marissa Creighton fears the worst. Tell me you trust me was the last thing Ethan said to her, and she’d shrugged it off. Now she can’t get those words out of her head.

Marissa’s family has always been her rock. But when they come to help her with eighteen-month-old Logan, their overprotectiveness borders on oppression—occupational hazard of the family’s surveillance business, or is it? Seeking comfort in the playlist she and Ethan share, Marissa is shocked to find a new song there: “Trust Me.” She’s certain it’s a message.

Using song titles as code, she and Ethan start communicating back and forth. But she still doesn’t understand why he left. While his messages point to incriminating documents, her family uncovers evidence of an affair. But their discoveries come with their own baggage, including personal threats, secret bank accounts, and dusty surveillance devices. All the while Marissa wonders whether she’ll ever learn the truth—or see her husband again.

Fast paced with lots of twists

Overall I really enjoyed this. It was fast paced and kept me guessing until the very end. I did not see the ending coming.

Good mystery

For her first mystery novel it's very good. It did drag on a little but overall very good. Always love a good mystery and thriller along with a HEA. ❤️

The most infuriating 5 star read

This was SO GOOD, but SO infuriating. I need 3 min alone with these characters in a ring mkay. It was like putting a puzzle together with beer goggles on and only using your pinkies. The writing?! The audio?! The use of Spotify playlists?! And THE TWIST?! Elle Owens I fear you have made me a superfan for life 🫡

Protagonist was weak and unlikable .

While that may have been the intent … to show growth and awareness in the leading character it was too obvious and off putting . I would have returned the book if that was an option. Since it was not, I stuck with it and it was ok. Not the best and not the worst.

Narration drove me crazy!

Why do narrators feel the need to overact every single line? This is not up for academy award review. Narrator spoke almost every single line with the urgency of someone who was going to be killed in the next sentence. It was distracting, unnatural, and took away from the story. It was truly that painful.
Story was average. Clever idea using the songs for communication but it was overplayed. Character development was very average. Easily could have missed this one.

too many f**k words, swearing, cursing. so unnecessary, shows poor writing skills

why all the f words, swearing cursing? shows the author's lack of imagination. And just write "my heart was beating fast" not " like a drum, like awoodpecker, like a typewriter ".....
