About this listen

When Quentin Draith wakes up in a private sanatorium, he has no memory of who he is or how he received the injuries riddling his body. All he knows is that he has to get out, away from the drugs being pumped into him and back to the real world to search for answers. His first question: How did his friend Tony’s internal organs fill with sand, killing him in a Las Vegas car crash?

After a narrow escape, he tracks down the basic facts: He is an investigator and blogger specializing in the supernatural - which is a good thing, because Quentin’s life is getting stranger by the minute. It seems he is one of a special breed, a person with unusual powers. He’s also the prime suspect in a string of murders linked by a series of seemingly mundane objects. The deeper he digs and the harder he works to clear his name, the more Quentin realizes that some truths are better off staying buried….

If you could sum up Technomancer in three words, what would they be?

Interesting collusion of worlds

What did you like best about this story?

Technomacer takes the best of conspiracy theory, parallel existences, aliens and the shady world of private detectives and melds an interesting narrative and cast of characters. The characters are really fabulous.

What does Christopher Lane bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

If Sam Spade read a book, he would sound like Christopher Lane. The amazing part of Lane's reading isn't just that he can out Bogey Bogart, but that he has a terrific range for all of the characters. This is my first book with Lane as a narrator. It won't be my last. He is one of the few readers that make the book better.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If only I could listen at one time. :)

Hardboiled PI meets SciFi Aliens - fun read

Technomancer (Book 1) caught me completely off-guard. I assumed from the title that this was not going to be a straight-up thriller. As I started reading the book, I wasn't getting the mystical vibe until I did. Author B. V. Larson takes you into a world where a unique series of events has the main character thrown into a mad battle between earth and invaders from parallel realities. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series. The Audible book performed by Christopher Lane is great.

Christopher Lane is great

The concept of this book was interesting. Unfortunately the narrator did not bring it to life for me.

Interesting story but poorly executed

I was a little iffy on the narrator's style but as it progresses it suited the story well. altogether worth the listen.

starts out slow but gets good

What other book might you compare Technomancer to and why?

This book had a similar feel to Mike Carey's Felix Castor series and R. S. Belcher's Nightwise, maybe some of Daniel O'Malley's The Rook in regards to the amnesia.

What about Christopher Lane’s performance did you like?

Had good, distinct voices and a fluid narration.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Amnesia in paranormal Vegas, everyone is out to get you.

Any additional comments?

Interesting new find in the urban fantasy genre. Has a novel approach to it's magic system with the random items with random magical effects. Though the title, Technomancer, was misleading, the book still delivered.

Interesting Urban Fantasy/Paranormal series

This is reminiscent of a mini-series called "The Room". The story is very well done, which is typical of B.V. Larson and I really liked the narration. Excellent all-around.

Great story!

This sits up there next to the Hellequin series. Now I'm off to the next book in this series.

Loved this story

I thought this was a good techno/magic gumshoe kind of book.
The reading itself was well done and he created the whole gumshoe atmosphere well.
Unfortunately I was never really in the dark about much that mattered. It was easy to follow and a decent listen while doing chores.
It follows fairly standard fare I thought, which can be good. You know what to expect. There is a good protagonist, with a couple of antagonists and a couple of personal relationships to fill out the main character. I thought the book felt like too much of a lead-on to the series, and not as good as a standalone book.
That said, it was pretty clever in the use of the tech/magic in the world. It was unique enough to make it a good gumshoe listen.
In all I would recommend this book.

OK in general. Good listen.

sections of the book were lifted from one of my favorite novels, Nine Princes in Amber, and other concepts came straight from the mini series "The Lost Room". Still entertaining though.

The Story was good... But
