About this listen

The Galactics arrived with their Battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spanned the Milky Way. Our only worthwhile trade goods are our infamous mercenary legions, elite troops we sell to the highest alien bidder. In the third book in the series, James McGill is deployed on another alien world. His third interstellar tour is different in every way. Rather than meeting up with a primitive society, this time he’s headed to an advanced world. Tau Ceti, better known as Tech World, is the central trading capital of Frontier 921. McGill figures he’s lucked out. The assignment looks dull but luxurious. Tau Ceti boasts a planet-wide city with a trillion inhabitants, all of whom are only interested in making a few credits. But all is not well on Tech World. The Empire is crumbling, an invasion is coming, and McGill’s easy ride through life and death has come to an end.

McGill is such a screw up

Enjoyable series

Reviewing the first 3 in the series. The lead hero is annoying and lucky. The story and action gets pretty repetitive. Overall I will continue with the series if I find them on sale for <~ $7 max. It's worth checking out.

Flawless writing & narration

BV Larson did it again. A sci-fi piece with a GREAT story. So many modern sci-fi writings conceal a poor storyline with overly abstract worlds or internal debate. I use to love Card; but Larson just blows him out of the water. Just listen for yourself!

I’ve listened to these books a few times

I don’t yet have books 10, 8, & 7 in this series.
I’m listening to this whole series again, in order. I enjoy it. It’s popcorn, flavored like Starship Troopers.
The reader is good. The stories are fun. It’s my guilty pleasure. It’s not practical, I don’t learn anything. :-)

Larson loves a good ol' fashioned love triangle!

Three books into this series, I can't help but notice this is now the second series of Larson's where the protagonist is caught in heated situations solely because he can't can't keep his belcher under control... The issues aren't as overt in the Star Force series, but the roles reach party plays in both worlds plays out very similarly. it kind of throws me out of the story when there is a real tense action piece unfolding only to take an abrupt right turn to explore someone's feelings about who Spec James recently slept with. Similar to Star Force, our hero continues to string everyone along and has to deal with the consequences throughout their story arc. Hopefully we can stick to more of the main plot with less emphasis on everyone getting burned by our favorite horn dog!

Love this Series

The characters are deep and rich with personality while a galactic story unfolds keeping the reader in suspense for all the extreme crazy situations one James McGill gets into.
