Acerca de esta escucha

Dr. Peikoff makes a compelling case for a rational system of education by contrasting three approaches to philosophy and the different educational alternatives they propose to replace our present system. He translates the usual abstract discussions in this field into material easily comprehensible to the listener. In the process, he defines a proper methodology and curriculum that will produce thinking high school graduates confident of their ability to achieve their goals.

This is a good blueprint structure to follow for giving and getting a real education steeped in cognitive thinking. It is a process that must be applied as early as possible. It is a different approach being used and taught to our educators - but it should be the core. My wife is a math and science teacher and almost everything in this book we not only agree with but have been saying for years. When she constantly gets high school student with credit for what is now called Math 1 and Math 2 (a hodgepodge of Algebra, Geometry, etc) - that are incapable of 3rd grade math skills like multiplication and division - it is maddening! Or when she has to spend weeks reviewing basic math skills before she can even begin teaching science topics that are dependent on them having that knowledge - it's maddening! Complete and obvious failure of the steps leading up to when she gets them. But what does the administration push: do whatever it takes to get them to pass the class and move forward - and not in an actual educational way. It is absurd the level of incompetence of many of the teaching staff, the administration, the county/state/federal school boards, etc... Looking at this from the inside, it is scary as to what things will look like in another 20 years. Our kids are not receiving an education - a top to bottom indoctrination into collectivism is the main goal - front and center. It's a shame we did not come across this book much earlier. Worth the read and wish there were some of the suggested "education" classes he proposes in practice.

Excellent blueprint for thinking educators

this is an excellent book helping us understand that the best education comes from the best fundamental philosophy that is informing the education. the key to saving America and America's youth is rebuilding the education system built on rational and logical principles of education.

What every parent and teacher should know. Genius and direly needed to get Johnny to think again. Our future depends on it.

A must read for any parent. I just wish there were schools out there that didn't teach collectivism in one for or another

A must read for any parent.

The author/editor references books and philosophies that few to no teachers take seriously. Just because someone wrote something in a book does not mean that it is true. I am a parent and teacher. "Look Say" sounds like what I know as sight words which are a great way to speed up reading skills--just like memorizing math facts helps students continue to learn math.

The author/editor states that parents have to teach their students to read at home because the teachers are screwy; however, teaching does not happen in most busy or poor homes. Poor students are frequently behind in vocabulary as well. Most teachers work hard and have multiple ways to teach their multiple students rather than the one-dimensional trope presented here. There is a lot wrong with education today, but this isn't it.

In sum, this book oversimplifies teachers and students while also failing to employ the logic it purports to champion.

This book is ridiculous.

While the author of this book does give valid information regarding learning in the classroom much of it is based on old and outdated facts. Most of the strategies they provide are already in place or common sense in the current classroom. This book gives a false and inaccurate look at classrooms today, and I felt was insulting to all hard working, informed teachers.

Out of Touch with Reality
