About this listen

Paul Fisher sees the world from behind glasses so thick he looks like a bug-eyed alien. But he’s not so blind that he can’t see there are some very unusual things about his family’s new home in Tangerine County, Florida. Where else does a sinkhole swallow the local school, fire burn underground for years, and lightning strike at the same time every day?

The chaos is compounded by constant harassment from his football-star brother, and adjusting to life in Tangerine isn’t easy for Paul - until he joins the soccer team at his middle school. With the help of his new teammates, Paul begins to discover what lies beneath the surface of his strange new hometown. And he also gains the courage to face up to some secrets his family has been keeping from him for far too long.

In Tangerine, it seems, anything is possible.

Memories

The first time I read this book I was also a 12 year old 7th grader living in Florida , & I was just in awe of it. This was one of my favorite school books & to be able to go back & listen to it all these years later is truly heartwarming for me. I absolutely love this book & the story behind it. I’m so glad Paul is able to step out of his comfort zone. He grows up so much through this book.

My daughter loved the story!

Good story about a boy who doesn't realize why he is odd and comes to terms with his brothers mean nature. There are a few heroic deeds thrown in too.

Absolute Classic

Not a doubt in my mind that one day this book will be treated the same way we treat Oliver Twist. A true classic for everyone to read.

This book is great but the way audible expresses it even more enjoyable

Audible is a great app for starters in reader and more experienced readers. reading this book page for page is very hard for me but with audible I was very interactive to the book

We're all a little bit broken

My students and I love this book! The story is compelling, the characters are all as broken and perfect and real as can be, and they will resonate with anybody who's ever been ignored, mistreated, and knows the true meaning of friendship. Most of the adults also ring true and show how the best of intentions can often backfire and cause tremendous grief and suffering. Sadly, some of the adults clearly depict selfish, hurtful, deceitful and cowardly behavior which just goes to prove that while we're all a little bit broken, some of us need to work much harder correcting our faults. My students hated how many adults allowed Antoine to stand alone.

Wonderful

It’s been over 20 years since I first read Tangerine. When I heard a sequel was finally on its way I decided to give it another read to refresh some of my memory and boy am I glad I did.

Listening to this tale in audiobook form really brought the story to life. I felt all of Paul’s experiences from the soccer field success to the many tragedies he faced head on. Truly amazing. Can’t recommend this book enough.

Good book, narration was irritating at times.

The storyline on its own was pretty good. Some of the characters drove me crazy, but without giving the story away, I won’t say much else. My biggest problem was with the narrators voice. He seemed to have taken a mocking tone when a lot of the adults were speaking, and his acting voice was way over done, and probably contributed to my irritation toward the characters. I might have felt differently if I read the book on my own.
