About this listen
In Surfacing, Siri Lindley opens up about her unique celebrity-dappled early life. When an NFL superstar notices her beautiful mother, her idyllic childhood is upended. Glitzy dinner parties and world travel pull her mother away, and Lindley grows up feeling alone and out of place. As her intense loneliness grows into anger, she lashes out against her New England life of privilege.
Shy and painfully self-aware, Lindley finds solace in sports, playing field hockey, ice hockey, and lacrosse at Brown University. But when she misses the cut for the US lacrosse team after college, she is left directionless - until a friend invites her to watch a triathlon. Lindley's dream is reignited and she never looks back.
Success doesn't come easily. Lindley fails early and often - brutal swim starts, bike equipment failures at key races, grueling workouts - but it's debilitating anxiety that still haunts her. She turns to unconventional Australian coach, Brett Sutton, who helps her tear up her script of self-doubt and transforms her into a world champion.
Lindley retires from the sport at the peak of her success, intent on helping athletes realize their own dreams, and finally finds the courage to step out into her true self and find love as a gay woman.
Surfacing is the breathtakingly honest book that shares Lindley's daring journey. She is proof that it's never too late to rewrite your own story and change the thoughts, habits and behaviors that hold you back. Surfacing will inspire you as it shows you how to stop being your own worst enemy and start uncovering your potential.

Story
Siri Lindley wanted to be a world champion triathlete . . . even though she didn't know how to swim. She wanted to love and be loved . . . even though her father shunned her because she was gay. She wanted to savor every day and enjoy the life she'd made with her wife, her career, and her passion for horses . . . even though in November 2019 she was diagnosed with a rare—and usually fatal—form of acute myeloid leukemia. Every time Siri has faced what seemed impossible, she found a way to not only survive the situation, but to thrive within it.

Story
When Des woke up on April 16, 2018, the morning of the Boston Marathon, it was 39 degrees and raining, with high, gusty winds. The weather didn’t bother her. In fact, she thought it might be a blessing. She was far from peak form—recovering from illness and questioning her running future—and didn’t expect much of herself that day. But as she ticked off mile after mile in the brutal conditions, passing familiar landmarks on the course she knew and loved, something shifted. Opportunity unexpectedly presented itself. Des tapped into her inner strength and found a reason to race.

Story
Lauren Fleshman has grown up in the world of running. One of the most decorated collegiate athletes of all time and a national champion as a pro, she was a major face of women’s running for Nike before leaving to shake up the industry with feminist running brand Oiselle and now coaches elite young female runners. Every step of the way, she has seen the way that our sports systems—originally designed by men, for men and boys—fail young women and girls as much as empower them. Written with heart and verve, Good for a Girl is a joyful love letter to the running life.

Story
Most organizations and individuals work in the context of annual goals and plans; a 12-month execution cycle. Instead, The 12 Week Year avoids the pitfalls and low productivity of annualized thinking. This book redefines your "year" to be 12 weeks long. In 12 weeks, there just isn't enough time to get complacent, and urgency increases and intensifies. The 12 Week Year creates focus and clarity on what matters most and a sense of urgency to do it now. In the end more of the important stuff gets done and the impact on results is profound.

Story
The 1989 Ironman World Championship was the greatest race ever in endurance sports. In a spectacular duel that became known as the Iron War, the world's two strongest athletes raced side by side at world-record pace for a grueling 139 miles. Driven by one of the fiercest rivalries in triathlon, Dave Scott and Mark Allen raced shoulder to shoulder through Ironman’s 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike race, and 26.2-mile marathon. After 8 punishing hours, both men would demolish the previous record - and cross the finish line a mere 58 seconds apart.

Dick had never run a race before, and the thought of pushing his son’s wheelchair while running was daunting. But, once again, Dick and Rick were determined to overcome any obstacle. Story
Beloved German cyclist Jens Voigt isn't a superstar in the traditional sense of the word. Although he won three stages of the Tour de France - and wore the yellow jersey twice - Voigt never claimed an overall victory. He became a star because he embodies qualities that go beyond winning and losing: sacrifice, selflessness, reliability, and devotion. European and American crowds were drawn to his aggressive riding style, outgoing nature, and refreshing realness.

Respect , passion and human kindness
I loved this book.
This is the story of life of a great human being I respect and admire: Siri Lindley. The combination of the facts of her life and her journey towards winning in triathlon is fascinating. She portrays the human factors that are not very usual to read or hear about. Inspiring. Thank you Siri for sharing so openly. And thank you to my coach Mafe Flores for posting this book and planting the seeds of curiosity and desire to go for my dreams.

Inspiring and relatable
I really enjoyed this book. The author starts with her childhood which could have been a book in itself. I particularly like that she read it herself. It’s a great listen on audible. I literally started it an didn’t stop until the end. It’s interesting, captivating and inspiring. Much of the book is about Siri’s career as a athlete but you don’t have to be one to appreciate her grit. Loved this book!!

Reinspire yourself with this book before you give up
I first saw Siri on stage at a Tony Robbins event and then through chance her name kept coming up and I found out she had this book. Because I love triathlon I picked it up and it created every emotion in my body. It’s raw and authentic! She shares about her challenges growing up, how she went from a no one in triathlon to the top as an athlete and now coach.
It’s an incredible ride you must get a ticket on because it will inspire you to change. It will push you to knew limits and plant a seed of belief that you are capable of great things in life.
Regardless of your athletic prowess pick this book up and enjoy the journey!
So thankful she wrote this so we can all get a glimpse into greatness through the highs and lows of a true champion.
