Acerca de esta escucha

In a world full of super powers, Felix had a pretty crappy one.

After learning to harness his ability to modify any item he owns, he now runs a corporation that is rapidly expanding - Legion. After tangling with the local Heroes guild they’ve finally settled into a semblance of stability.

Sounds great on paper. Run your company, make money, be your own boss, settle down. Except that with running a business, comes an inordinate amount of responsibilities. Like making sure everything keeps running and your people are paid.

Worrying about the longevity of his company, Felix begins to expand into other cities. So they’ve packed up the car, put in all the requisite forms, gotten the approvals, and set out to start Legion up in a new city.

The problem, though, is the local government had no idea who they were selling permits to. Approving forms for. To Felix and Legion.

And now they’re about to find out.

Good follow up

was a good follow up. interesting turn of events. But really miss the sound effects the previous reader used. like when it was a thought, not spoken.

amazing work can't wait for book 3

I loved it all. the fact the voice actor changed didn't change the tempo of the book because he put work into recreating the voices of the characters and did them in my opinion just write and I also love the story for meyu (idk how to spell her name) but it definitely threw me for a loop

An Enjoyable Extension of the First

I enjoyed this whole story. It kept me listening to the end, and by the time it was over I was disappointed that I'd have to wait for the author to write the next installment. I will be buying the audiobook if it's over 11 hours.

Things I liked:

- Splitting of Andreas into two separate entities.
- Expanding to a new world
- Interaction with a diety
- Overall flow of the writing and language
- Disaster response sequence
- Expansion on the world in terms of non-human, human like races that exist (beastkin, trolls, ogres, etc) I didn't have any sense of them in the first book. I assumed that Myriad's wolf girl thing was related to her powers, but now I know that's not necessarily the case.
-

So So Elements:

- The abduction sequence in the middle was a little "Eh...." I mean... one of the people had practically every super power he'd collected bottled up inside and ready to release for a limited duration, and it took them THAT LONG to escape? To put it in a table top gamer term, I felt like we were being rail roaded. That whole section should have been over in 10 minutes of read time, 30-45 minutes of protagonist time, but it went on forever.

- I liked Wraith.... Why'd you do that? Didn't see him as a throw away character.

- A bunch of times Lily's powers could have been very useful, but she doesn't use magic even once in a way that advances the story.... Not sure why she was taken off the board in terms of super abilities, and placed in a PR role that any non-super could do with some points thrown in to up their appearances

- I'd like a better explanation of "Own" since the power hinges on this concept. His power seems to work a lot on people and things he doesn't own. In the case of objects, is it a "Finders keepers" or "Possession is 9/10ths of the law" sort of situation, even though it seems to work on items that clearly belong to the city? If that's true, why not just steal corpses in the first book, instead of seeking family members to sign over the rights to deceased relatives? Seems like any time someone signs a contract they are 'owned' enough for his powers to work, and yet there's no slavery in these areas. Perhaps it should be rewritten as 'bound" (to the protagonist).

What I didn't like:

I would have given it 5 stars except for a plot point that didn't make much sense - Gold.

They say that he has everyone who wants to be resurrected buy a 'bar of gold' with a portion of their wages, which can then be broken down for points to fuel the resurrection. The problem is that there's no way that he's paying his people enough so that they can all enough money to purchase a brick of gold after so little time. Considering that this process is becoming the backbone of his powers (and thus what's keeping the empire running), it seems like he should have done a little more research into how much pure blocks of gold actually cost. They aren't cheap.

I know that he has the power to convert more ore less any material into gold with his power, which costs points, but at no point in the story does he say that employees have the option to buy his material converting services with cash, or that he's selling gold to his company members for about a millionth or even a thousandth of the retail price (seems like that would weaken the value so far as his power was concerned).. This was troublesome for me.

In spite of the short comings, this is still an awesome listen. The performance is about the same as the first book, so if you liked it you should like this one too. I'm not quite sure why Lilly is on the cover. She's in the story, but I wouldn't call her an MVP here.

Flawless

What an incredible continuation! I must sing the praises of Nick Podehl because he truly picked right back up where the first book left off.

I admit I've loved all of Nick's work thus far, but I was still concerned with the narrator change. I was ecstatic when I learned that Nick was studying the original production and he truly nailed this performance.

I read this book upon release while imagining many of the voices as done by Jeff Hays, and yet I was not jarred at all to hear Nick's delivery of the story and his version these amazing characters.

Absolutely outstanding job! I eagerly await both William D. Arand and Nick Podehl's next releases.

If you are looking for your next fix of audible or text goodness, might I recommend the author Randi Darren.

;)

Haven't been this excited about a series in a while

A great sequel in a series I didn't know would become my new favorite. I was initially disappointed to notice it would be a different narrator, but Nick did a good job continuing the established voices from the first book. Suffice it to say, I can't wait for book three. Well done Mr. Arand!

Epic followup…

Arand took Book 1 to incredible and surprising levels. I couldn't have imagined some of the twists. Not even trying for next installment .

Even better than the first!

Exciting, very well performed, really enjoyable. I have to say that the storyline is so very creative that I really look forward to each chapter. The author, William Arand, is very talented as is the narrator, Nick Podehl.

New narrator, no problem

I too, was concerned about the change of the narrated performance actor but was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed Nick’s interpretation. Jeff is still one of my favorites but for this book I got over it really quick.

If you loved the first book, then getting this book is a sure bet. Everything is more fleshed out and literally expanded. Hope for more to come
