About this listen

"She’s beautiful. But she doesn’t care for me. If anything, she hates me. I watch her as she fidgets under my gaze, biting her plump lips. Those lips. I can’t decide if I should nibble on them or simply yell at her for frustrating me so thoroughly.”

Almost a thousand years have passed since King Altair of the Fae kingdom Alnembra was cursed by Maaz, a Bloodbane witch. A beast by day and a Fae man by night, Altair is desperate to find the Key. Now, the curse has almost run its course, but not before he discovers the existence of a woman who could break the curse and save him and his people.

Verity Chastain lives a normal life in New York City. On her wedding day, a beast swoops down from the sky to carry her into a world of fantasy and magic. Disbelieving and stubborn, Verity struggles to accept her new reality.

She and Altair go head to head in this fantasy-fueled romance. Can she find a way to break his curse? Or will he die as the physical manifestation of his sadistic personality; a beast?

Excellent! A wonderful start to the series!

Warning: a few spoilers coming your way, but nothing that isn't set up from the start. You'll have figured out this outcome by the time the book is a quarter of the way through, and that's okay because the mildly predictable nature of this book left the next one open to a whole new plot line! I also didn't mind it because I enjoyed the characters so much! Honestly, I loved just about everything regarding this book with the exception of the short length. I don't like that there are four books when the author could have split them into two books easily, but whatever. Still work it, loved the characters, the plot, all of it! Zach Zaba was superb as well! My only complaint is that I wanted a little more SOMETHING when Verity finally realizes how to break this curse toward the end, and although she was weak, I thought maybe Altair might have a victory roar or something, anything, really! They seemed to just be like eh... well, guess we did it! Cool, cool. It made the moment feel less momentous than it could have been, which was a bit irritating, but it wasn't the end of the world since the story doesn't end here. I can tell I'm going to need to hear the whole series, it's just so interesting and keeps me wanting more!

Not really impressed.

The narration was very distracting from the overall story. On top of an already mediocre story line. There was not much excitement in terms of the plot, it seemed very generic to me.

I had to return it!

I really love paranormal romance books and have found quite a few great gems on audible, but man, this one let me down. The actual text could be great, so if you’ve got a kindle give it a chance! But the narration, was beyond what i could bear. If you have the story told from two perspectives, Terri narrators are best OR at least a narrator that can portray two different characters clearly. The FMC is a 20 something human with very teenage angst vibes while the MMC is an older cursed Fae, there’s no way in reality or fiction they should sound the EXACT same when it’s from their point of view. I tried to get past this, but couldn’t in the end as it prevented me from hearing the story as intended.

absolutely atrocious reading

the story is OK, no real problem with the storyline, it's nothing special. The guy reading it has no business rating audiobooks.
