Promise Not Delivered Soon Enough
I adore nonfiction, and I appreciate well-written self-published nonfiction. However, because I read so much nonfiction, I have particular standards and dislikes. One thing I'm insistent about is that the book's title, subtitle, and description match what's actually in the book. Say what you mean and mean what you say, in essence. Therefore, I unfortunately had issues with this book. The book promises to be a “step-by-step” guide to reduce stress and help you become more resilient, ultimately leading to a happier life. As such, I was actually expecting a step-by-step guide from the start! The entire first half of this book was actually nothing close to a step-by-step guide. Instead, it was a history of the old Roman stoics. As I was listening, I felt like I just kept waiting for the step-by-step part to begin! Not that I didn't enjoy the stoic background. but promise what you will deliver and deliver on your promise! If you'd like a broader background in stoic history with a small step-by-step section—and don't mind that the book isn't what the author said it be—you may enjoy this more than I did.
