About this listen

On a hot July morning on Sweden's idyllic vacation island of Sandhamn, a man takes his dog for a walk and makes a gruesome discovery: a body, tangled in fishing net, has washed ashore.

Police detective Thomas Andreasson is the first to arrive on the scene. Before long, he has identified the deceased as Krister Berggren, a bachelor from the mainland who has been missing for months. All signs point to an accident - until another brutalized corpse is found at the local bed-and-breakfast. But this time it is Berggren's cousin, whom Thomas interviewed in Stockholm just days before.

As the island's residents reel from the news, Thomas turns to his childhood friend, local lawyer Nora Linde. Together, they attempt to unravel the riddles left behind by these two mysterious outsiders - while trying to make sense of the difficult twists their own lives have taken since the shared summer days of their youth.

Good story but reader is shrill

I couldn't get past the annoying shrill voice of the reader. Her fast speech and American accent ruined the story for me. It sounds like she's yelling the whole time.

First in series

This book was written by a Swedish author and later translated in to English. I liked the book but it is very long on the descriptions of the detectives thought processes. I found myself skip reading over parts. I really wanted to find out how it ended but didn't read every word. I just found out that this series was made into a TV series. I will have to look into it because this shorten down would be a great show.

Disappointing

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Another narrator; Since it was in Sweden I expected at least a hint of a Swedish accent. Story was good but I doubt that I will listen to another one, it was that offsetting.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Good story, flawed narration

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Angela Dawe?

Anyone with a Swedish accent.

Was Still Waters worth the listening time?

Good story. Hard to say. At first I wanted to just not listen to it, but I did get into the story so I stuck with it.

good read overall

It started off hasty, almost rushed at the beginning, however it did level out pretty quickly. Definately kept me well entertained to the end.

Performance was disappointing

What did you like best about Still Waters? What did you like least?

Story was good, but the performance of it was lacking

What was one of the most memorable moments of Still Waters?

the first time I heard each character being spoken by a different person - and their voices were not pleasant to hear

Would you be willing to try another one of Angela Dawe’s performances?

Perhaps

Was Still Waters worth the listening time?

Again, the story line was interesting

Any additional comments?

I prefer 1 reader rather than multiple readers

Pretty good

Rated PG 15. Several "F" bombs. Fairly clean other than that. I was surprised with the ending.

Book was mediocre

The story was repetitive. No resolution to the conflict between husband and wife. I don't understand why the argument about the wife taking a better job was even included as part of the story.
