About this listen

Amethyst Treasure is torn between two worlds. Her mother’s world in Downbeat where she has her friends, a large house, and any little thing she could want for - except her mother's time. Her mother's mysterious job gets much more of her attention than Amethyst ever did.

In another world is her father, little sister, and Virtuoso, the Queen's own backyard. The house isn't big, and the spending is frugal, but even if she has to share him, Amethyst has as much of her father's love and care as she can stand. What she can't understand is how her world was ever torn apart in the first place.

When a chance encounter leads to a new perspective with the giantess Solei, Amethyst finally questions the peculiarities surrounding her parent's divorce. For the two people she's spent most of her life with, it seems like she hardly knows them.

Find out where the heart's scars were formed and if ever they may be healed in Star Overhead, Volume 3.

The drowning waves of divorce on kids

Following the format of the last book, we again focus on another character in Dawn's life, Amethyst Treasure. In this book, Amethyst comes to the conclusion that her daily misery stems from the separation of her parents, at the behest of Solei. She doesn't understand what caused the divorce or why it happened in the first place, so it seems like a good enough idea. What she gets instead is a mystery surrounding her mother's life.

This story has a much happier ending than most stories like this, but it comes out to a child trying to understand why her world was broken apart. When it is finally explained to her, even the explainer doesn't quite understand the why. A big messy web of relationships doesn't always lead happy places, and neither of our protagonists really get it. That's just the way the world is, and sometimes, you simply have to go along with it.
