About this listen

Best-selling author brings Mary Fields to life....

Based on true accounts born into slavery, allowed to grow up with her owners' daughter, Molly was taught to read and write. After emancipation, Mary found it difficult to remain close to her childhood friend and struggled with many jobs throughout her life. At 60 years old, Mary became the first Black woman mail carrier and became known as "Stagecoach" Mary. Even though she frequented saloons, smoked cigars, and fought like a man, she was loved by the town of Cascade and given more privileges than a White woman.

Slave to Beloved Mail Carrier

Mary Fields was a strong black woman who stood her ground in an era where it was foolish to do so. I love the story because it was well written and showed that if you believed in yourself you could accomplish anything no matter what anyone said or thought. This story may be short but it seriously packs a punch. The only thing that bothered me was the "n" word being used but I understand that at that time people used it. I highly recommend this book. This is my honest unbiased review of "Stagecoach" Mary Fields.

Riveting!

When asked the age old question “Living or dead, who would you most like to meet and spend an evening with” at long last, I have my answer. Hands down, it’s Mary Fields! If you close your eyes you can see Mary walking the streets of Cascade, you can feel the story as it plays out and you will lose time and place in the real world just like I did as you are totally absorbed in the word and time that Mary lived. Your heart will stop when she died and you will cry at her funeral. You will rejoice at the memory of her life and all she accomplished and you too will want to raise a glass to her memory. Thank you Georgianne Landy-Kordis for an evening I’ll not soon forget! On second thought, one evening with Mary would not be enough. We better make that a weekend!

Good Short Story

This is a screenplay but is still a good historical listen. Stage Coach Mary is quite a character and does many things with her life.
She loves her mistress whom she has grown up with. The Narrator Melody Celeste gave a good performance in this audio book.

Nope

just the execution of the story is so off. stagecoach Mary is one of my favorite historical figures and this story did her no justice at all. I can't even finish it. I regret getting this book I do not recommend it.
