Acerca de esta escucha
To create the most extensive and comprehensive English-language biography of Maria Goretti, the author drew from the most updated Italian biographies as sources. Moreover, he personally visited the three sites related to the story of Maria and Alessandro. Written to accompany Thoman’s sister book on Maria Goretti, “Following Maria Goretti: A Personal Journey from Her Birthplace to Martyrdom,” the result is a fresh, new look at the lives, personalities, and milieu of Maria Goretti.
This work also explores the life of the other protagonist of the story, Alessandro Serenelli. While many accounts of Maria Goretti’s life focus on the depravity of her killer, this book explores his childhood traumas—including his mother’s mental illness, his broken home, privation, and frequent migrations. The author not only visited the village where he was born, he visited the Capuchin friary where he died. While doing so, he had the opportunity to interview three Capuchin friars who lived with and knew Alessandro Serenelli well. Their reflections are invaluable in understanding the complex character and psyche of Alessandro. What results is a true “Journey into Forgiveness and Redemption.”
With a foreword by Cardinal Angelo Comastri, himself a devotee of St. Maria Goretti, this book is the perfect start to getting acquainted with Maria Goretti’s life. Or, if you already have a devotion to Maria Goretti this book goes deeper. May the Holy Spirit guide you as you begin your journey.

Historia
Padre Pio of Pietrelcina is perhaps the single most extraordinary saint in the modern history of the Catholic Church. His heart was pierced. He carried the wounds of Christ on his hands, feet, and side for half a century. He communicated with his spiritual sons and daughters through bilocation and mystical perfume. He read the souls of his penitents. He offered his suffering so that others might be healed. He built one of the most significant hospitals in Southern Italy. Most importantly, Padre Pio wanted others to be redeemed. In Bret Thoman’s latest book, he has created a fresh, new ...

Historia
Padre Pio was born in a rural, farming village. He entered a Franciscan order centered on harsh penance and radical poverty. He lived more than fifty years in a mountain hermitage. And yet, everyone has heard his name. But few know who Padre Pio truly was. In his latest work, Bret Thoman has pierced the life of Padre Pio in a novel way: through a pilgrimage to all eleven Capuchin friaries and sites where the stigmatic saint lived. With Pietrelcina as his base, Thoman sets out each morning to the "Convents of Padre Pio." He accompanies the reader into these special places with captivating ...

Historia
St. Veronica Giuliani (1660-1727) is considered one of the most extraordinary mystics in the history of Christianity. A Poor Clare nun, she was a stigmatic who offered her many mystical sufferings for others. After fifty years in a monastery, where she served as abbess and novice directress, she ended her life essentially divinized. And yet, even though numerous popes have extolled her virtues, St. Veronica Giuliani is little known outside her native region and Capuchin Order. Now, for the first time ever, a compendium of her Diary has been translated into English. While all saints are ...

Discover St. Zélie and the important lessons she can teach us! Although she lived a hundred and fifty years ago, St. Zélie Martin (1831-1877) was a modern woman. But she always put God first and strove for holiness in everything she did. She and her husband, Louis, were canonized together on October 18, 2015. Historia
The brilliant English author G.K. Chesterton weaves Our Lady in and out of his fiction: characters are praying the rosary, going to church, fighting over the place of the Mother of God in society. He talks about her in poetry, fiction, and non-fiction as casually as if he thought about her all the time, even writing a book of Marian poetry. As he says, you cannot chip away at a statue of Mother and Child and leave only the Child; it is impossible to think of Jesus without thinking of His Mother. Chesterton seems to have pondered conversion for at least fourteen years, from 1908 and the ...

The Petrine verses (or Biblical passages referring to St. Peter, his role, and the office of the papacy) are perhaps the most controverted passages in the history of Christianity in the last 1, 000 years. This study of St. Peter’s role in the Bible puts to rest any doubts about the true sources for and meaning behind Jesus’s commission to St. Peter (Matthew 16:18), not to mention numerous other passages out of both the Old and New Testaments. Employing language accessible to an average reader, all historically debated passages about St. Peter and the papacy are unpacked so that their ...
