About this listen

If you love Susan Mallery and Jill Shalvis, you won’t want to miss this new novel of second chances, dogs, and knitting, from the author of Pupcakes and Sit! Stay! Speak!

Laid off, cheated on, mugged: what else can go wrong in Maeve Stephens’ life? So when she learns her birth mother has left her a house, a vintage VW Beetle, and a marauding cat, in the small town of Timber Creek, Washington, she packs up to discover the truth about her past.

She arrives to the sight of a cheerful bulldog abandoned on her front porch, a reclusive but tempting author living next door, and a set of ready-made friends at the St. Francis Society for Wayward Pets, where women knit colorful sweaters for the dogs and cats in their care. But there’s also an undercurrent of something that doesn’t sit right with Maeve. What’s the secret (besides her!) that her mother had hidden?

If Maeve is going to make Timber Creek her home, she must figure out where she fits in and unravel the truth about her past. But is she ready to be adopted again - this time, by an entire town...?

Interesting story that holds your interest. Quirky characters. Easy listening for my long rides and the narrator’s voice was pleasant.

Enjoyed the story

At first I wasn't sure, however, in glad I listened to the whole book.

Never judge a book, unless you've heard the whole thing.

The only pets in this novel are the dog and cat that the main character has,, the fact that the knitters' club makes sweaters for animals

TITLE IS MISLEADING

Not sure what I expected but it wasn’t to become emotionally attached and invested in this town and its people. It was sweet but shockingly emotional only to end up exactly how it was supposed to.

Surprisingly Endearing

Spoiler alert - I am adopted. I didn't read the description of this book very well, because I was surprised when the storyline was adoption/birth mother/who am I? The questions, the dilemmas, the understanding are all typical in stories of adoption. I felt they were very simple in this book and left me wanting more than just whiny rejection. Obviously the birth mother in this story had a deeper storyline and (thank goodness) a story was there to be told.
I wasn't in love with this book as much as I was in love with the cover. Unfortunately the title is misleading, and being a dog-story-seeker, that disappointed me.
So, bottom line, not a great big fan of this book. It was just ok.
Narration, also ok.

This read like a book from a novice writer.

A surprisingly wonderful listen. Terrific narration of a really nice story with great characters about people finding their way. Truly an enjoyable story.

While this seemed to me a total romance novel, I really liked the journey the heroine took to finding herself. It was an exceptionally good story and the pets she adopted helped her get there. The supporting cast was totally great.

This is Great
