About this listen

Everyone enjoys peace and tranquility, and Victor Bayne is no exception. He goes to great lengths to maintain a harmonious home with his partner, Jacob. Although the cannery is huge, it's grown difficult to avoid the elephant in the room...the elephant with the letters FPMP scrawled on its hide.

Once Jacob surrendered his PsyCop badge, he infiltrated the Federal Psychic Monitoring Program. In his typical restrained fashion, he hasn't been sharing much about what he actually does behind its vigilantly guarded doors. And true to form, Vic hasn't asked. In fact, he would prefer not to think about the FPMP at all, since he's owed Director Dreyfuss an exorcism since their private flight to PsyTrain.

While Vic has successfully avoided FPMP entanglement for several months, now his debt has finally come due.

The Dynamic Duo, Price and Pugh, has struck again!

Gomez, you rock! You make listening to a book so enjoyable that I wish it was a job I could do for a living. Your interpretation of Vic's inside voice is so spot on that I think you might possibly be a close relative.
Jordan, you rockette! I am so glad that you are sharing your incredible creative talent with us and am also so darn thrilled that you'll be continuing Vic's story! Now the waiting begins....

Lisa is dating, and Vic is freaking out. Of course

Vic at his best! Yes, okay, okay, I'm an unabashed Vic's fan, there, I said it :P

But okay, he is how it goes in this book: while Jacob has infiltrated the FPMP, Vic still is fretting about owing an exorcism to Con Dreyfuss... and so it begins! Vic partner hasn't recovered from the basement full of reanimated corpses from the last book, Lisa is living in a tent at their place and dating... OMG! you won't believe who she's dating! There is a psycop who is missing, they suspect Laura is the one who killed Roger Burke, and Chance is haunting the FPMP quarters... so much going on!

But Vic is maturing more and more, and learning to trust a bit more and his relationship with Jacob is, as always, brilliant.

And his friendship with Crash here shines brightly. The way he cares about his wellbeing, how he worries about him having enough money to eat well, and about his safety; particularly after the crash and grab suffered by his downstairs neighbour.

Now, Con Dreyfus... I was really ambivalent about Con Dreyfuss in this story: I really disliked the way in which he lured Vic with Seconal, how he used his addiction to get what he wanted. But it is also quite obvious that his goal is the safety of all psychs. I ended really liking him, but it took me a while :P

And Lisa... if you ever had any doubt that Vic adopted her as his little sister, here you'll quelch them. He can't deal with the idea of Lisa moving out from her blue tent in his living room. And it's amusing seeing him trying to guess what kind of man she is dating.

The storyline is fascinating, and the final battle is EPIC! No, seriously, it's stupendous.

And, of course, it will come as no surprise that the writing is excellent, the same as it is Gomez Pugh narration.

The scariest book yet in the series!

Oh my God! I don’t know who frustrates me more in this book, Vic or Lisa? 🙄 Please do us all and yourself a favor Vic! Let that crazy woman goooooooo! 😤 While you are calling her your best friend and being obstinate about maintaining your relationship with her, she calls you “her friend” (that’s right, you are only A friend! Not THE best friend 🤬) and she has no regard whatsoever for you and Jacob. Oh my god! I can’t even start on how much I wanna throttle her! 😡 How can a character gets worse and worse with every book in the series? Seriously she and Dreyfuss so deserve each other and the day wouldn’t come soon enough if I never see that crazy woman again in this series! 🙄 *Whewwwwww* Okay .. enough ranting. That being said, although Lisa sent me on a psychotic murderous rage and the mystery in this story was quite predictable, I find myself still enjoying this book much more than my fellow bookworms. And I have to admit that the creepiness and scariness of this book far surpasses all the previous books. The last scene gave me chills and goosebumps. The reasons this book still amused me .. although it wasn’t the best in the series, this book was essential for the change of tide in the upcoming books. This signifies how Vic has decided to walk a new path and I like it. ☺️ Second, I love the relationship between Vic and Jacob getting stronger and stronger! And kudos for that very hot smut in the middle. 🔥 (Though only Vic can think about most ridiculous things while Jacob is on his knees in front of him. I find that endearing and hilarious. 😂) I’m happy that Vic might find a new best friend soon. (Nope, I’m not going to spoil who .. you gotta find out yourself 😁) And I’m satisfied that loose ties from the previous books including the GhosTV dilemma was neatly ended in this book. It gives me a satisfying closure. Again, Gomez Pugh did an excellent excellent job of narrating the hell out of this book. 👏 I must say I’m more excited for the upcoming books in the series because my next listen will be PsyCop briefs (I’m dying to get Jacob’s PoV .. oh daddy please! 🤣😉), and Crash’s story (Well, he’s been proving his worth steadily so I’ll finally decide whether he’ll redeem himself completely or not 😏) and I’d love to see Vic and Jacob finally working together at “Agent Bayne”. That being said, I gotta end my review here because I can’t wait long enough to get delicious little treat “PsyCop briefs”. 😌

Even better than the book alone.

I'm never going to be able to sing "Row, row, row your boat. " again without giggling. Gomez Pugh definitely brought his A-game to this narration,...and that's on top of Jordan's A-game for this tale.

Spook Squad

I think this is my favorite book in the series so far. This story is so cool but also creepy and gross. I love it!! Vic and Jacob are the best, and Lisa and Laura. I love them so much. I even love Dreyfuss. Lol Vic is so funny. It's so cool what he can do. I can't wait to read about Crash's story in the next book. I bought the audiobook and followed along reading the ebook. The narrator does a good job. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this.

Jordan and Gomez totally rock!

I love this series - Jordan Castillo-Price is an amazing author and keeps the story moving along - never a dull moment! Gomez Pugh has not only Victor's voice down pat, but does an amazing job with all the additional characters as well! If you haven't read (or listened) to the books in this series, do yourself a favor and get started!

Another great installment

This series started strong and has stayed that way. Storytelling, relationships, the pictures painted by the phrasing - not always pretty but always engaging. I continue to be glad I chose this as an audio series as the narrator really brings it to life.
