About this listen

In a debut novel brimming with warmth and wit, Terri DuLong spins a tale of new beginnings, old friends, and lives forever bound....

A New Englander born and bred, the last place Sydney Webster expects to find herself starting over is on an island off the coast of Florida. Yet here she is in Cedar Key, trying to pull herself together after her husband's untimely death - and the even more untimely revelation of his gambling addiction. Bereft of her comfortable suburban life, Syd takes shelter at a college pal's bed and breakfast, where amidst the bougainvillea blossoms and the island's gentle rhythms, a plan begins to form....

Syd never considered the possibility of turning her passion for spinning and knitting into something more than a hobby, but when the unique composition of her wool draws attention, a door is opened - the first among many. Yet even as she ventures out of her comfort zone, Syd finds herself stepping into the embrace of a community rich with love, laughter, friendship...and secrets. And as long-hidden truths are revealed, Syd faces a choice: spin a safety net - or spin decidedly forward and never look back....

good but predictable

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not necessarily. The story was good but it had a predictable story line. However the description of they island and the smell of the island was great. Not bad but not great.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

When they had the blue moon ceremony. The least when she got mad at the party.

What does Kate Udall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Emotions

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Spinning Forward #1 in a great series

Sidney's loss of everything moves her to leave with nothing & to the town where her best friend lives who owns a B&B. Sidney opens a knitting yarn shop, finds her roots unexpectedly, and falls in love.

Expected but an easy, nice read

Expected storyline, but good characters and interesting view of a changed life. I like the review of the landscape and life on a small southern island.

First book in series is Great!

This is the first of the series I have read. It is a very good book. I will definitely be reading the second book of series. Kate Udall does a great job as narrator.

Cliche with little character development

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who isn't paying much attention to the plot or the characters

Would you ever listen to anything by Terri DuLong again?

No--much too trite

What didn’t you like about Kate Udall’s performance?

Whiney

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No--it was irritating

Any additional comments?

The author threw in every conceivable trite plot twist--adoption, gambling addiction, sex after 50, right to die--but never developed any of it.
