About this listen

The final novel in the heartwarming Lancashire-based Gibson Family series by beloved saga author Anna Jacobs.

It is 1860 in Bilsden, the Lancashire mill town, and Frederick Hallam is dying. But first he makes secret plans to smooth the future path for his beloved wife, Annie. Her sister, Joanie, is fed up with everything until a dashing new admirer crosses her path. But a spurned suitor is determined that Joanie will be his, whatever the cost. And he is not the only one who wants to harm the Gibson family.

Meanwhile the Civil War in America cuts off cotton supplies so that times are hard in Bilsden and unemployment is rife. Annie had to rebuild her life after her husband's death and plans to create Spinners Lake, an extraordinary project that will keep her workers from destitution and assuage her own grief.

Tian Gilchrist is caught up in the American war and nearly dies there. He fights his way back to Bildsen, to Annie, whom he has never forgotten.

And the plans that Frederick made for Annie will change her life in unforeseen ways, bringing her hope and happiness once again.

New narrator

I was upset about the narrator changing the voices as much as she did. The main character suddenly reverted to her old dialect and not the one she so diligently acquired. Had she narrated it from the start, I might not have minded so much, but she didn't, and she might have tried to read it in keeping with the there first books.

Awful Narrator :/

This story is as good as the rest of the series, which I enjoyed very much. However, the narrator absolutely ruined the experience. Her voice is harsh and flat, accents are horrid.

a real story teller

the final book in the series I have enjoyed the writing and the story I like somethings and hate some I love Annie and fredrick love it was beautiful her second husband is so needy and has no use he just didn't fix in I wonder why she married him he's so weak
when reading this book it takes you on a emotional high like when joanie got rapped I notices rape always play apart in her stories but when joanie told her dad he did believe her it makes me so mad I wanted to stop reading but I continued now the narrator I wish she had still use the narrator who did book 4 this lady makes all the Male characters sounds so old and grumpy just horrible but still and good story

Narrator ruined this book

I sincerely enjoyed the books in the series, EXCEPT this one. Although I endured it to the end, I am sorry I purchased this audible book. Why this particular narrator was chosen is beyond me, but that choice was a mistake!!! Frankly, I wouldn't recommend this audible book to anyone. The story was ok, but not as good as the rest of the series.
