About this listen

Suspicion of guilt...

When Special Agent in Charge, Max West, and his K-9 partner, Opal, look into a series of bombings in Northern California, horse trainer Katerina Garwood instantly seems suspicious. As the ex-fiancee of a man tied to the criminal Dupree family, Katerina may know more than she's letting on - especially since the infamous syndicate is targeting her. And Max isn't sure he can believe her when she says she knows nothing. Despite his reservations, though, he can't deny his attraction...or the impulse to protect her. And with the criminals closing in, Max must separate the truth from lies, or he and Katerina may not live to share tomorrow....

Very entertaining Christian mystery, performance

This is a very entertaining Christian mystery and suspense book!!! I enjoyed it SO much. It has wonderful characters including a wonderful K-9 along with some bad guys. The story is laid out so it is easy to follow and has a lot of action along with the mystery. The romance is slow to develop and enjoyable. The performance is very entertaining.

Very few books do I rate as 5 stars!

It's a rare that I give good reviews on the books that I listen to on Audible. Mainly because I like good murder mysteries or mysteries suspense stories. I'm looking forward to looking at what other books this author has written. Most of my problem is for the most part, I stick with Christian authors being I don't care to hear audible porn, or foul language and cursing. That said, being I stick with mostly Christian authors I've realized over time that most seem to have a problem with writing their stories to make the main characters, too stupid to live so as to set up scenarios. Some of these characters that other authors have created, are unrealistically stupid.

I really appreciate that this author, Valerie Hansen, did not do this with this book! So refreshing.

Good but same storyline.

Kind of was the same story line as the other ones I’ve read/listened to. Good, just same story line as the other two.

Better than the last

This story had better writing than the others do far. The plot progression was natural and believable. It tied into the last book and set the stage for the next one very well. I could easily imagine the difficulties experienced by the female protagonist happening to someone in real life. Her conflicts with her father and community could easily happen given her experiences. I know people in similar situations so her conflicts rang true to life.

The FBI was shown as competent but not always successful. Their failures were not the result of stupidity for the most part. There were enough wins to make the situations believable.

The story progressed without too much of the typical, “I’m not in love…” rot. It was definitely there, and these parts disappointed. There must be a better way to show the characters’ internal conflicts, but female “romantic suspense” writers haven’t figured it out yet. Why do they do this? We all know that’s how the story is going to end. It just annoys me.

In all, though, I liked this story better than others in the series. The protagonists understood and needed each other because they both understood isolation and loneliness in a similar way though for different reasons. The heroine didn’t have to be a warrior to affect her environment and those around her for good, though she did show her courage often. I liked that she didn’t back down from Max’s or her father’s grumpiness and outward rejection. She seemed to see past this and understand these men’s deeper needs which they tried to hide. It made her a better heroine in spite of her other flaws. In the end, she brought out the best in both men because they were better men at heart, unlike her ex. So I liked this book because it had more than the others.

Horrible

Gaslighting, verbal abuse, and cognitive dissonance masked as a "romance". Please don't recommend this to younger women. So unhealthy.
