Easy and interesting listen

It was great to hear Becky read this herself. The content was very approachable and easy to digest, like listening to a story. I just wish it was a bit longer!

Nice first book - easy to understand

This book is appropriate for anyone interested in space, but appears to be written primarily for those new to the subject. Well written, well told, and thoroughly entertaining. I look forward to her next book, especially if it goes into greater depth on only one or two topics.

Excellent accessible overview of astronomy

I came across this book from following the author’s YouTube channel. Similar to those videos, Dr Smethurst’s passion for astronomy makes this book highly engaging and informative. I also enjoy that she frequently goes beyond a simple recitation of a scientific principle by showing how the individual observations leading to that principle were first discovered and subsequently integrated into a cohesive theory.
The book is very accessible to a general population audience.
It is not an exhaustive, comprehensive take on the topic like a textbook might be, but instead focused on a few important ideas such as dark matter, or the relationship between super massive black holes and galaxies.
Each chapter covers a different idea. Concepts are explained in an understandable way with relatable metaphors/examples that help explain the underlying idea.
My only criticism is that I wish it were longer — it is engaging enough that I found myself wanting to learn more about the topic being discussed in each chapter, or to have more chapters/concepts to learn about; e.g. the hypothesized planet 9 or dark energy. Perhaps there will be a sequel.

I love Dr Becky!

I've been a subscriber to her YouTube channel for ages. Probably since very near the beginning. And I have always enjoyed her excellent explanations of astronomy and hearing her take on current astronomical events and discoveries. This book feels like a continuation of that excellent work.

great book for a introduction to the universe.

Dr Becky does a great job with the story transitioning each chapters subject into the next. She's able to give a glimpse in how the universe works and a hint at the vastness and power in the cosmos. Her passion and enthusiasm for science is foremost in her narration.
