Story
Modern love is a mess and life is (spoiler alert!) very hard. Whether you’re in a committed relationship or on the apps, buckle up, there’s a lot to unlearn. How to Love Someone Without Losing Your Mind is your guide to sanity in a culture gone mad. Psychotherapist and sex therapist Todd Baratz blends sharp humor with raw insight as he challenges us to break every rule about love. It’s time to move beyond the relentless pursuit of the perfect partner, to challenge the stigma against neediness, and to rethink our obsession with diagnosing common challenges as disorders.

It’s true, as they say, that we can only love others when we first love ourselves and we can only experience real joy when we stop running from pain. The key to understanding these truisms lies in remaining open to life in all circumstances, and here Pema Chödrön shows us how. Because when we embrace the happiness and suffering, intelligence and confusion that are a natural part of life, we can begin to discover a wellspring of courageous love within our hearts.

Relationships have always been essential to human survival. Our bodies and brains are programmed to seek out connection, whether familial, romantic, or platonic. And yet, these vital bonds are often at the root of our deepest suffering. While our hearts are primed for compassionate connection, our nervous systems—which store all our past hurts and disappointments—are wired for threat and negativity.

Everyone needs to love and be loved - even men. But to know love, men must be able to look at the ways that patriarchal culture keeps them from knowing themselves, from being in touch with their feelings, from loving. In The Will to Change, bell hooks gets to the heart of the matter and shows men how to express the emotions that are a fundamental part of who they are - whatever their age, marital status, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

An essential work that centers colonial and historical trauma in a framework for healing, Decolonizing Therapy illuminates that all therapy is—and always has been—inherently political. To better understand the mental health oppression and institutional violence that exists today, we must become familiar with the root of disembodiment from our histories, homelands, and healing practices. Only then will listeners see how colonial, historical, and intergenerational legacies have always played a role in the treatment of mental health.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

A gospel, as ancient and authentic as any of the gospels that the Christian bible contains, was buried deep in the Egyptian desert after an edict was sent out in the 4th century to have all copies of it destroyed. Fortunately, some rebel monks were wise enough to refuse - and thanks to their disobedience and spiritual bravery, we have several manuscripts of the only gospel that was written in the name of a woman: The Gospel of Mary Magdalene.

Publisher's summary
From couples therapist Dené Logan comes a new perspective on understanding our inner masculine and feminine energetics as the key to experiencing fulfillment in our partnerships.
Does something feel off about your intimate relationships? If you haven’t been able to pin down exactly what, you aren’t alone. While attempting to connect the dots of her own experience to the patterns she observes within the relationships of her clients, couples therapist Dené Logan came to a vital understanding in the search for relational fulfilment: the answer often lies in the inherent interplay of the masculine and feminine energy that everyone possesses.
Both masculine and feminine polarities are present in every person and relationship. When we’re out of touch with the energetics within ourselves and those around us, it can create an internal struggle and sense of disharmony in our partnerships. “Understanding these dynamics is the key to ending the unspoken war of the sexes that plays out far too often in our relationships,” Logan says. Thankfully, we have the power to work with these polarities, first within ourselves, and then within our relationships.
In Sovereign Love, Logan helps us understand how to integrate masculine and feminine energetics so we can move away from the codependent, transactional views of what relationships “should” be, toward an interdependent, mutually balanced state where both partners are present, self-aware, and strong in Self. Here you’ll discover:
• What energetics you’ve been operating from and why
• The polarities that are being created in your partnerships
• How to take personal responsibility for shifting your own energy to a more integrated place
Logan shares revelations and techniques to support you in experiencing the wholehearted, satiating kind of love that is rooted in self-awareness and interdependence. “By unpacking the historical, cultural, and highly individual reasons why we love the way we do,” she explains, “we can understand our motivations and consciously choose to love in a way that serves our growth, our values, and our personal sovereignty.”
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

“Dené Logan’s Sovereign Love is simply phenomenal. This is an exploration of the complexities of human connections. Her approach transcends traditional relationship paradigms, inviting readers into a transformative journey of self-awareness and mutual understanding. This book is not just a guide; it’s a revelation that redefines the art of love and companionship in today’s world, offering a vibrant blueprint for relating.” —Rainier Wylde, teacher and author of As You Are and Love Against Time
“Dené Logan is a guiding light amid the messiness and murkiness of modern-day partnerships. Her wisdom goes beyond the traditional couples therapy model, challenging our conventional notions of love and belonging. She invites us not just into a journey of self-discovery and empowerment but also into a complete reimagining of what is possible in our connections when we show up as our full selves.” —Jeremie Lotemo, poet and transformation coach

After several years of reading this genre of self help, and following leading voices in the life coaching sector, I can say that Miss Logan has an outstanding ability to analyze and articulate the issues impacting our ability to hold relationship with one another. I started with Audible, but I’ll be buying two hard copies - one for my reference and one to lend out.

I love this book.
As a therapist, I want to help clients and couples understand the ways cultural forces are showing up in their own lives and relationships. Dene’s book articulates in a powerful and clear way how we are limited by these forces so much so that we lose ourselves and lose out on opportunities to experience true, authentic love. The ideas in this book are brave and inspiring. I loved every chapter and plan to read it again and again. Also, it’s great to receive an accompanying PDF.
