About this listen

It is said that all who live belong ultimately to the Undying King. In the shadowy lands of Shyish, Nagash, God of Death, calls forth his soulless legions to reassert his dominion. His dread advance begins with the free city of Glymmsforge, bastion of Azyr in the Realm of Death.

Standing between Nagash and his prize are the brooding Anvils of the Heldenhammer, an ancient host of Stormcast Eternals, and Lord-Castellant Pharus Thaum, guardian of the Ten Thousand Tombs.

As battles between the living and the dead rage throughout the Mortal Realms, the War of Heaven and Death begins anew. But even Sigmar’s chosen may not be enough to cease the onslaught. For how does one destroy what is already dead?

If you love Warhammer and Age of Sigmar, you will enjoy this story as it rolls out the Necroquake and the positions of Nagash and Sigmar. I liked it, even loved some parts (Arkan and Manfred)(Nagash and Arkan), but I never felt connected or invested in the main characters. I finished the book feeling only pity for them, as the truths of their existence and purpose comes to light. That may have been the point of the novel after all. I just was wanted more to like and believe in regarding the main characters. If I could I would score the bv story a 3.5.

Enjoyed a great performance and a good story.

I’ve read a bunch of Age of Sigmar books and so have some knowledge of how this world works. Lots of build up, bloody conflict and a not always happy conclusion.

With that in mind this story was pretty good overall. I enjoyed the build up and was even taken off guard here and there and even upset at one point due to being invested in a main character, I’m finished now and am looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book.

Very interesting read.

a must read/hear for any age of sigmar fans. this book shows that the stormcast are not as untouchable as GW wants us to believe they are.

Another amazing book by Josh Reynolds!

The performance was fantastic. The story is overall quite good. My only real complaint is that it's quite slow and takes too much time with inner monologs.

It's nice to see the thoughts and motives of a character, but it tries to hard to be dramatic and just takes far too long to describe those thoughts and motives. I found myself bored when particular characters were having their moments of thought.

Good book though, recommend for those interested in the side of Death and for those into the Anvils of Heldenhammer Stormhost.

Was a solid book, if a bit slow.

Overall I like it as an introduction to AoS but I just feel like BL struggles to make their transhuman super soldiers unique and interesting

Decent fantasy the suffers space marine syndrome

Absolutely loved this book! Really made me want to get into Slaves to Darkness and Stormcast Eternal. This coming from a Khorne player.

A story if a great war from many different view points. Does everyone need to slam the ferrule of their staff on the ground every chapter though.

A stark telling of life in the Realm of Death

Yeah, Nagash is a bit of a bore, but that's the only minor criticism that I could throw at the book. I do think that is a bit on purpose though, as he is meant to be a foil to Sigmar.

I am continually impressed at the caliber of writing within the Age of Sigmar, Black Library. If you are interested in how the story is progressing, and (if like me) you are interested in seeing what Stormcasts are like as people (not quite humans), then this is a definite read.

The main story arc is entertaining and has its twists and turns and surprisingly good character development. What is even more interesting is that even the minor characters have well written and portrayed threads throughout the novel.

Good read, great characters. Highly recommend.

Good Story, Great Characters

poor audio quality, but I got used to it after an hour of listening. Wish I could've given this 3.5 stars, but it definitely leans towards four.

Fascinating concept for what I assume to be a major plot device in Age of Sigmar's narrative. But the sheer scale of the ideas here made large parts of the book a slog. That said, Glimsforge is a fascinating city and the character interactions were, by and large, extremely good. A fine work for anyone wanting to understand the conflict between Nagash and Sigmar, as well as some of the undead politicking.

Generally good
