About this listen

A complex psychological thriller packed with suspense and a plot that twists and turns like an octopus.

On 7th July 2005, a man disappears, believed dead, in the London bombings. Some years later, a freelance journalist recognizes his photograph in a newspaper - the man she has just seen in a café. From that second, Alice’s life will be changed forever in ways she could never have foreseen. Immediately she is pitched into a race against time that takes her from London, across Britain and into the heart of a mystery - the reason for his disappearance on that fateful day.

Spurred on by her unwavering belief in his innocence regarding an unsolved murder on the eve of the bombings, she begins to question the official version of events and to challenge the mindset and motivation of those also seeking him. Then other developments begin to overshadow her search for the truth which becomes a frantic battle for her own survival. For Inspector Jim Rodgers, this had been his final, most agonizing case: a murder with no murderer, an inquiry ending in dead-lock and unfinished business, the aftermath still haunting him down the years.

The tragedy begins on seventh of July 2005. But it does not stop there. Fate catches up with everyone...in the end.

Good story but...

I want to say that I clean houses for a living and listen to at lease two books a week. Though, this story was good, I was super confused for what seemed like the first 9 chapters. I don't like to read " the back of books", or what the stories are about, I enjoy the mystery of it all. But this was too much. I actually looked up the book on google so as to understand if the main character was supposed to be a woman or man. I though, the name of main character is Alice, so it should be a female... well the narrator was a man so, hence my confusion! I've never listened to a book where the "Main Character" voice -man or woman- was different than who it was supposed to be. I stopped listening to it twice before I figured out that Alice was a woman. Total Shame!!! Why on earth would you have a man read the "Main" part of a woman. I get that they would read other parts of the book, but if the main character is a woman...Then make it a woman voice and visa versa. UGH!!
